To reduce the risk of scratches, keep abrasive items and cleaners away from your iPhone, clean the display with a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth, and consider a screen protector made for your exact iPhone model. A protector adds a barrier, but it is not a guarantee against cracks or damage from drops.
Keep abrasive materials away from the display
Apple says abrasive materials can scratch iPhone glass and diminish its oil-repellent oleophobic coating. Avoid rubbing the screen with rough fabrics or objects, and do not scrape or polish marks that appear on the glass. Apple’s iPhone cleaning guidance explains which materials and methods to avoid.
Some material transferred from denim or pocket contents can look like a scratch on textured glass or Ceramic Shield surfaces and may be removable. Clean the screen gently before assuming a mark is permanent.
Clean your iPhone screen safely
For ordinary cleaning, Apple recommends a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. It warns that cleaning products and abrasives can diminish the oleophobic coating and may scratch the device. Avoid household cleaners and compressed air; follow Apple’s separate instructions if disinfecting the phone.

Consider a screen protector
An iPhone screen protector provides an additional surface layer between the display and everyday contact. Apple’s store lists the Belkin UltraGlass Screen Protector with scratch and impact protection, touch response, and an Easy Align installation tray. Belkin’s “up to 2x stronger than tempered glass” statement is a product claim displayed on Apple’s listing, not an independent comparative result or a measure of how much the protector reduces cracked screens. See Apple’s Belkin UltraGlass listing.
Check compatibility before buying
Protector dimensions and fit vary by iPhone model. The cited Apple listing names iPhone 16e, iPhone 14, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13. Confirm your exact model on the product listing and check that the protector works with your case; do not assume a protector for one iPhone fits another.
