Keep the factory-installed inner-screen film in place, use a gentle touch, check between the screen halves before folding, and open the phone by its sides. A case can cover the exterior, but it cannot guarantee protection for the flexible display or hinge. Care guidance and resistance ratings vary by model and country, so check Samsung’s information for your exact Flip.
Protect the inner screen during everyday use
- Use a light touch. Avoid pressing hard on the flexible panel or crease, and do not use a fingernail, pen, key, or other hard object as a pressure point. Samsung warns that hard or sharp pressure can damage the display layers. See Samsung UK’s foldable-device care guidance and Samsung Germany’s display guidance.
- Open it by the sides. Do not wedge a finger between the folded halves to open the phone, and do not fold it backward against its intended direction.
- Check before closing. Look between the halves for a card, coin, key, sand, or other debris. Remove anything you find before folding; an object trapped inside can press against the screen.
- Fold it before storing it. This keeps the inner surface from being left exposed to items in a bag or on a table. These habits reduce avoidable risks; they cannot prevent every kind of damage.
Leave the installed screen film in place
Samsung identifies the film attached to the main screen of Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices as the official film for foldables. Samsung UK warns that removing it or applying a non-official film may cause touch abnormalities or screen damage, and recommends a service centre for replacement. Samsung France also recommends leaving the film in place and cautions that non-approved films can affect the device or its sensors. Do not add a second inner-screen protector as a routine upgrade. If the installed film bubbles, scratches, cracks, or lifts, contact a Samsung-authorized service provider rather than peeling it off or applying a replacement yourself. Samsung describes the film as a consumable, and service access and warranty coverage depend on the country and model. Check local terms and appointment availability; a warranty or replacement offer in one market does not establish coverage elsewhere.
If the film has already been removed
Samsung UK says touch sensitivity is customized for the film and may not work properly without it. Its support page advises turning off Touch sensitivity under Settings > Display if the film has been removed. This is a contingency step, not a reason to remove the film.

Protect the hinge area without improvised cleaning
Keep sand and other particles away from the folded phone, and avoid drops and strong impacts. Samsung warns that external impacts can damage the display and that damage may spread to surrounding areas. The cited care guidance does not establish a tested hinge shield or a specific hinge-cleaning method, so do not insert tools or swabs into the hinge or apply liquid there.
Resistance to water and solid particles depends on the Flip generation. Samsung Germany’s guidance, updated September 22, 2026, lists the Flip6, Flip7, Flip7 FE, and Flip8 as IP48, and the Flip3, Flip4, and Flip5 as IPX8; the latter models are not protected against solid-particle ingress. No rating makes the hinge dustproof. Samsung Singapore’s older guidance, updated July 22, 2022, describes its subject device as not water- or dust-resistant, so it should not be applied to newer models.
