Use separate arguments to print() for a simple space-separated result, or use an f-string to place an integer inside a sentence:
age = 42
print("Age:", age) # Age: 42
print(f"Age: {age}") # Age: 42
The first call passes two values to print(), which inserts a space between them by default. The f-string is often clearest when the text and number form one label or sentence.
Choose a printing method
| Approach | Best for | Example |
|---|---|---|
Multiple print() arguments |
A simple display with the default space separator | print("Age:", age) |
| F-string | A sentence, label, or controlled number formatting | print(f"Age: {age}") |
str.format() |
A reusable template or codebase already using this style | print("Age: {}".format(age)) |
Concatenation with str() |
When you specifically need to join strings with + |
print("Age: " + str(age)) |
Python’s print() accepts multiple arguments, so there is no need to convert an integer just to display it. Use an f-string when the value belongs within the surrounding text. The Python tutorial documents all of these output options, including str() for human-readable conversion: Python 3.14.7: Input and Output.
Print several strings and integers
Pass each value as an argument when a space-separated line is enough:

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
name = "Mina"
score = 95
print("Name:", name, "Score:", score)
# Name: Mina Score: 95
To change the delimiter, set sep. For example, print(name, score, sep=" - ") displays Mina - 95. The default separator is one space.
Put an integer inside a sentence with an f-string
Prefix the quoted string with f and place the variable name inside braces. Python substitutes the value when it evaluates the string:

name = "Mina"
score = 95
print(f"{name} scored {score} points.")
# Mina scored 95 points.
F-strings also let you control how a number looks. Put a format specifier after a colon inside the braces:
count = 7
price = 12.5
print(f"Items: {count}")
print(f"Price: ${price:.2f}")
print(f"Count: {count:04d}")
Here, .2f displays the price with two digits after the decimal point, while 04d displays the integer in a four-character, zero-padded field. Choose precision and padding to suit the output; they are formatting choices, not requirements for printing a number. The tutorial also demonstrates decimal precision and field widths for aligned output: Python 3.14.7: Input and Output.

Use str.format() for a separate template
str.format() is a valid alternative, particularly when a template and its values are handled separately or a project already uses this style:
name = "Mina"
score = 95
template = "{} scored {} points."
print(template.format(name, score))
For a short inline message in modern Python, an f-string is usually more concise. Both approaches can format values; prefer the style that keeps the template easiest to read in your code.

Why string-plus-integer concatenation raises an error
An integer such as 42 is a number, while "42" is text containing digit characters. Python does not automatically combine a string and integer with +, so this fails:
age = 42
print("Age: " + age) # TypeError
If concatenation is specifically needed, convert the integer explicitly with str():

print("Age: " + str(age))
For ordinary output, multiple print() arguments or an f-string are generally clearer and avoid manual conversion. The official introduction explains that quoted digits are strings and shows how printed text differs from an interactive representation: Python 3.14.8: An Informal Introduction to Python.
Print a number entered with input()
input() returns text, even if the user types digits. Convert the result with int() when you need integer arithmetic; for display, an f-string can include either the text or the converted number:
age_text = input("Age: ")
age = int(age_text)
print(f"You entered {age_text}.")
print(f"Next year you will be {age + 1}.")
The conversion to int is needed for the addition in this example. If the input is not a valid whole-number string, int() raises ValueError; validate or handle that possibility when accepting user input.
Why printed strings may look different in the shell
print() displays a string’s contents without surrounding quotes. An interactive Python shell may instead show a representation with quotes or escape characters. For example, printing "hello" displays hello, while a representation can appear as 'hello'. Use str(value) for human-readable text and repr(value) when you want a representation that makes quotes or escapes visible; the distinction is described in the Python input/output tutorial.
