In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Choose a PDF destination, open More settings, and make sure Headers and footers is unchecked. Check the preview, then save the PDF. With that option off, Edge does not add its print date and page number to the document.
Print a webpage to PDF in Edge without the date and page number
- Open the webpage you want to save in Microsoft Edge.
- Open the print dialog by pressing Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. You can also choose Print from Edge’s menu or the page’s right-click menu. Microsoft’s Edge printing instructions cover these routes.
- Choose an available PDF destination. Its name depends on your operating system and which print destinations are installed.
- Expand More settings and leave Headers and footers unchecked. When selected, this option adds the current date to the document header and the page number to the footer.
- Review the preview for any unwanted browser-added text and check that the page is readable. Adjust other print settings if needed, then save or print to the PDF destination.
What the Headers and footers setting changes
The checkbox controls information Edge adds to the printed page; it does not remove content that is part of the webpage itself. If the date or page number appears in the website’s design, turning off browser headers and footers will not remove it.
Margins, scaling, page range, and background graphics are separate print settings. Change them only if the preview shows a layout or legibility problem. Microsoft describes these options in its Edge printing help.
If the checkbox is missing or locked
On managed Windows or macOS desktop installations, an administrator can configure Edge’s PrintHeaderFooter policy. Microsoft documents the policy for Edge 77 and later on those platforms; Android and iOS are unsupported. If the policy is not configured, users control the option in the print dialog. If policy disables headers and footers, users cannot print them; if it enables them, they are always printed. If the setting is locked on a work or school device, ask the administrator about the policy rather than repeatedly changing the checkbox. See Microsoft’s PrintHeaderFooter policy documentation.

If Edge print preview fails
- Retry the print operation or restart Edge, as Microsoft recommends in its print troubleshooting guidance.
- Try Edge’s Print using system dialog option if it appears in the built-in print interface.
- To open the system dialog directly, use Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Option+Command+P on macOS.
- In the system dialog, check whether the intended PDF destination is available and whether you can still control headers and footers. Its labels and controls may differ from Edge’s built-in dialog, so verify the result rather than assuming the same option is present.
