To save a Firefox webpage as a PDF, open the Firefox menu, choose Print…, select Save to PDF as the destination, review the preview, and click Print. This creates a page-oriented document; Firefox’s screenshot tool instead saves an image or copies one to the clipboard.
Save a Firefox webpage as a PDF
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Print… to open print preview.
- In Destination, choose Save to PDF.
- Review the preview and set the page range, orientation, color mode, and any options you need under More settings.
- Click Print, then choose where to save the PDF if prompted.
Firefox prints the page as it appears in the preview, not necessarily exactly as it appears on screen. Mozilla Support notes that webpages can be set up to look different on paper, so inspect the preview before saving: How to print web pages in Firefox.
Adjust the PDF layout before saving
Under More settings, Firefox provides controls for paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, format, headers and footers, and print backgrounds. Use the preview to check the effects of changes, especially when a page contains wide tables, sidebars, or other content that may not fit the chosen paper size.

- Orientation: use landscape when a wide layout is being clipped in portrait.
- Scale and margins: adjust these when content is too large or sits too close to the edge.
- Headers and footers: change these if you do not want print-added page details.
- Print backgrounds: enable this when background colors or images are important to the page.
When available, Format can be set to Original or Simplified. Simplified removes clutter such as buttons, ads, and background images. If Simplified is selected, Print backgrounds cannot also be selected. Mozilla explains the simplified option at Print simplified, clutter-free pages in Firefox.

Make a cleaner PDF with Simplified format or Reader View
If the page offers it, choose Simplified in the print settings’ Format option to reduce distracting page elements. The setting may not appear when no simplified version is available or when Reader View is already enabled. Another option is to open Reader View first, when the page supports it, and then print. Check the preview because simplification can change the layout and what content appears.
PDF or screenshot: which should you use?

To open Firefox’s screenshot interface, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. You can also choose Take Screenshot from the context menu. Select Download to save an image or Copy to copy it. See Mozilla’s instructions at Take screenshots in Firefox.

Use PDF when page-oriented output and selecting which pages to include matter. Use a screenshot when you need an image of the visible page or a full-page capture rather than a print-formatted document.
When you need to edit page content before printing
Firefox’s built-in PDF workflow is for printing the page, not editing its contents. Mozilla names the Print Edit WE extension as an example for readers who want to edit webpage content before printing. Treat it as an optional route for that specific need; the basic Save to PDF workflow requires no extension.
