To price a print-on-demand product in Hostinger AI Builder manual mode, start with the exact Printful fulfillment cost, add relevant product extras and taxes, account for shipping, then set a retail price using cost-plus, market-based, or value-based reasoning. The right figure depends on the product, variant, destination, and store shipping policy—not a universal markup.

What costs should you include in a POD price?

Printful charges you for fulfilling an order after your store receives it. Its fulfillment cost includes producing and shipping the item, but the amount varies by product and can depend on the base item, printing technique, and added features. Check the current amount for the specific product and variant rather than relying on a general estimate. Hostinger’s manual-mode pricing guide and Printful’s pricing information describe these costs.

Other inputs may affect what you keep from a sale:

  • Product-specific extras: Printing choices or added features can change Printful’s charge. Some designs may also incur digitalization or setup fees.
  • Tax: VAT or sales tax may apply, depending on the transaction and applicable jurisdiction. There is no single rate that applies to every seller or order.
  • Shipping charged to the customer: Decide whether the buyer pays a separate shipping amount or whether you incorporate shipping into the product price. Either way, include the fulfillment shipping cost in your calculation.
  • Other seller-side expenses: Payment processing, platform, marketing, and other business expenses may affect your actual business profit. The supplier-cost difference alone does not account for them.

Choose a pricing approach

Hostinger describes three useful ways to decide on a retail price. They answer different questions, so you can use one as your primary method and the others as checks.

Approach What it focuses on When it can help
Cost-plus Covering costs and adding a chosen contribution When you need a clear minimum price that accounts for known unit costs
Market-based Prices for comparable products When you need to understand how your offer is positioned against similar items
Value-based What customers may perceive the design or brand to be worth When distinctive design, audience, or brand positioning supports a different price from generic alternatives

For a market comparison, compare products that are genuinely alike in product type, quality, intended audience, and shipping terms. An Amazon listing for a custom T-shirt can offer one reference point for retail positioning, but it does not establish Printful’s cost, equivalent quality, or the right price for your own product.

How to set a price in manual mode

  1. Select the product details. Choose the exact product, variant, printing method, design features, and intended fulfillment region. These details can change the supplier charge.
  2. Check current Printful charges. Look up the fulfillment cost and shipping for your selected product and likely customer destinations. Use Printful’s pricing resources as a starting point, then confirm the amount for your setup; do not treat a general or past figure as permanent.
  3. Add applicable extras and tax. Include any setup or digitalization fees that apply. Determine tax exposure for your business and orders based on the relevant jurisdictions; Hostinger’s guide does not give a universal tax rate.
  4. Configure customer-facing shipping in Hostinger. Choose whether the buyer pays separately or shipping is built into the item price, and account for the supplier’s shipping charge in either case. Hostinger supports flat, order-price, and weight-based shipping rules. Printful live rates and automatic flat-rate push are not supported in this integration, so shipping rules need to be set in Hostinger. See the Printful Hostinger setup guide.
  5. Choose a pricing lens and set the retail amount. Use cost-plus if a required cost contribution is your starting point, market-based pricing if competitiveness is central, or value-based pricing if the design and brand offer a reason for a premium. Compare the resulting price with suitable alternatives before publishing.
  6. Review the economics after launch. Recheck costs and shipping when supplier rates or tax rules change, and review actual order results. Hostinger advises: “Re-evaluate your prices periodically as Printful rates or tax regulations change.”

How to calculate the contribution from a sale

Printful’s simplified formula is “Your profit = Retail price – Printful cost.” That is useful for understanding the gap between the customer-facing price and the supplier charge, but it is not necessarily your net business profit. Printful’s help guidance explains that the customer’s payment and the fulfillment difference must account for the product, shipping, and applicable taxes. Your other selling expenses may reduce what remains.

For a useful manual-mode calculation, write down the retail amount, the Printful fulfillment charge for the actual product and destination, any applicable product extras, tax exposure, and the shipping amount the customer pays or that you absorb. Then account separately for other business expenses when assessing overall profitability. Do not label the remainder “net profit” unless those costs have also been included.

How payment timing affects cash flow

The customer pays your store, while Printful bills you separately for fulfillment and shipping through the billing method on your Printful account. That means you may need to cover the supplier charge before the store proceeds are available to you. Configure and maintain the Printful billing method as described in the integration setup guide, and account for this timing when planning order volume and cash flow.

Keep store currency and price display in mind

Hostinger notes that the store currency is managed separately from Printful: “Your store currency is managed separately from Printful and your store currency determines how your customers see prices and pay you.” Set prices with the currency customers will see in mind, and avoid assuming that the displayed store price automatically changes Printful’s supplier charge.
