Prevent duplicates at the point where they enter the workflow: for YouTube RSS imports, set the starting episode after the latest one already on your channel; for an automation that adds videos to a playlist, compare YouTube video IDs before inserting and treat YouTube’s duplicate-item response as success. If a separate 24/7 scheduler plays that playlist, check its own queue and history settings too—playlist membership and playback history are separate states.
First identify which kind of duplicate you mean
An always-on podcast stream can involve three separate records: episodes in the RSS feed, published YouTube videos, and items or playback history in a playlist scheduler. Preventing a repeat in one layer does not automatically prevent it in the others.
- Duplicate upload: an episode already published on YouTube is imported again from RSS.
- Duplicate playlist entry: an automation tries to add a video that is already in the target playlist.
- Repeated playback: a scheduler plays a playlist item again. This depends on that scheduler’s queue and history behavior, not just on whether the playlist contains the video once.
Stop duplicate episodes during YouTube RSS import
If YouTube is importing a podcast from an RSS feed, use its starting-point setting when connecting the feed. YouTube recommends choosing episodes after the most recent episode already on YouTube to avoid uploading duplicates. First inspect the channel’s existing episode history, then confirm the cutoff in the RSS setup before saving. RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries and regions. YouTube’s RSS feed guidance explains the setup.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Review the podcast’s existing YouTube episodes and identify the latest episode already published there.
- When connecting the RSS feed, set the episode start point after that existing episode.
- Check the selected episode and the channel history before confirming the setup. New feed episodes are uploaded automatically.
Do not use release dates as a deduplication key
YouTube may sort RSS-uploaded episodes using the feed’s release date, but says that date is not verified by YouTube. A release date is therefore not proof that an episode has or has not been uploaded. Check the actual YouTube episode history instead. YouTube documents this limitation in its RSS guidance.

Deleting or correcting an RSS episode has side effects
Deleting a YouTube copy does not remove the episode from the RSS feed. YouTube says an episode may be uploaded again if it remains in the feed; if you want to hide the YouTube copy while preserving feed continuity, consider setting it to private instead. For a corrected audio file, YouTube’s documented re-upload action creates a new video and makes the previous one private. Any playlist automation should track the new video ID rather than assume the old ID remains current. See YouTube’s RSS guidance for these behaviors.
Prevent duplicate entries in a playlist automation
For a custom workflow that inserts videos into a YouTube playlist, use the video ID as the membership check. A video ID identifies the published YouTube video; the RSS episode GUID identifies the feed episode. Keeping both in your records helps reconcile the feed with YouTube when a re-upload creates a new video ID.

- Identify the target playlist ID and the incoming YouTube video ID.
- Call
playlistItems.listfor the target playlist and collect the video IDs in its returned playlist items. The playlist item resource exposes the video identifier. Google’s playlistItems.list reference describes the method and resource. - If the incoming video ID is already present, skip insertion. Otherwise, call
playlistItems.insertwith the target playlist ID and the video resource ID. Google’s playlistItems.insert reference documents the required resource. - Persist processed episode identifiers between runs as a second guard against retries or overlapping workers. Store the RSS GUID alongside the resulting YouTube video ID if you need to reconcile the two systems. This is practical implementation guidance, not a YouTube-required data schema.
- If YouTube returns
videoAlreadyInPlaylist, record the item as already handled and do not retry the same insertion indefinitely. YouTube documents this duplicate error for playlist insertion.
The current API references list a quota cost of 1 unit for playlistItems.list and 50 units for playlistItems.insert. These are API quota costs, not user fees; avoid unnecessary insert attempts by checking membership first. Google’s quota-cost documentation provides the quota details.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck the always-on scheduler separately
A YouTube playlist is not necessarily the same thing as a scheduler’s playback queue or history. The YouTube playlist API documents playlist items and membership, but it does not establish how an independent 24/7 scheduler caches a queue, repeats items, or remembers playback after a restart.

- Look in the scheduler’s current documentation for exclusion, played-item history, repeat, and queue-refresh controls.
- After changing playlist contents, verify whether the scheduler reads the updated playlist or continues with a cached queue.
- Test a restart and confirm whether previously played items remain excluded. Do not assume history persists unless the scheduler documents or demonstrates it.
On YouTube, a podcast show is represented as a playlist, with episodes as videos in that playlist. YouTube recommends full-length episodes in listening order and discourages combining clips, different shows, or other channels in a podcast playlist. A series playlist is a separate feature, not a general deduplication mechanism; YouTube says one video cannot appear in more than one series playlist. YouTube’s podcast playlist guidance and series playlist guidance describe those distinctions.
Troubleshoot common duplicate problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| An old episode uploads when RSS is connected | The selected starting point is earlier than the latest episode already on YouTube. | Review the channel’s episode history and choose a start point after the latest existing episode. Do not rely on RSS release dates as proof of upload status. |
| A deleted episode appears again | The episode remains in the RSS feed and can be re-uploaded by YouTube. | Remove it from the feed if it should no longer be imported, or consider setting the YouTube copy private if you want to hide it while preserving feed continuity. |
| An automation adds the same video again | It inserts without checking current playlist membership, or its local processed-ID state was lost. | List playlist items and compare video IDs before insertion; persist processed identifiers and treat videoAlreadyInPlaylist as a no-op. |
| A corrected episode appears as a new item | The re-upload created a new YouTube video ID. | Update the RSS GUID-to-video-ID mapping and review the playlist and scheduler history for the new ID. |
| A video plays again despite appearing once in the playlist | The scheduler may repeat the playlist, retain a cached queue, or fail to preserve played-item history. | Check the scheduler’s own repeat and exclusion controls, refresh behavior, and restart persistence in its current documentation, then test the result. |
Or let it run in the cloud
