Also check the distinct Google Ads features involved: AI Overviews are an ad surface, AI Max can expand landing-page selection, and promotion assets communicate offers.
What “AI Mode promotions” means in Google Ads
Google’s current documentation describes ads in AI Overviews, rather than a dedicated “AI Mode” promotion placement or special landing-page template. Ads may be eligible above or below AI Overviews in the 200+ markets where AI Overviews are available. Ads within an AI Overview are a narrower offering: Google lists English-language availability on mobile and desktop in Australia, Canada, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States. Availability and eligibility can change, so check Google’s page for current details.
Existing text and Shopping ads from Search, Shopping, and Performance Max campaigns may be eligible to appear within AI Overviews when auction and relevance conditions are met. Google says these ads must address both the user’s query and the Overview’s content. Its documentation lists adult, alcohol, gambling, finance, healthcare, and politics among sensitive verticals excluded from the documented experience.
Advertisers cannot directly target or opt out of AI Overview placements. Google currently reports these ads as “Top Ads” and does not provide segmented reporting for the placement. The practical approach is to prepare destinations for relevant Search traffic generally, rather than build a page around a placement you cannot select.

How to prepare a landing page for Google Ads AI Mode
Google Ads Help defines a landing page as “The webpage where people end up after they click your ad.” For that visit to make sense, the page needs to deliver the promise that prompted the click, then make the next action easy.
Match the page to the ad and search intent
Send visitors to the product, service, or offer named in the ad—not a generic homepage if a more relevant destination exists. Google’s example is an ad promising shoes at 20% off: visitors should be able to find and buy those shoes at that discount on the destination page. Put the important details where visitors can find them quickly.
Make the intended action obvious
If the ad asks someone to buy, call, request information, or sign up, make that action straightforward on the page. Use a clear call to action that corresponds to the ad; do not send people to an unrelated section and expect them to work out what to do next.

Make the page useful and usable on mobile
Google recommends fast-loading mobile pages, simple navigation, accessible contact information, and useful, original content about the advertised product or service. Keep clutter down and surface important details early. These are sound priorities for Search ad traffic, whether or not a visit follows an AI Overview.
Check that the destination works and follows policy
Before sending traffic, confirm that the page loads, is easy to navigate, uses the same domain as the ad’s display URL, and does not mislead visitors. Google’s destination requirements flag problems such as disruptive pop-ups, difficult navigation, direct downloads, and destinations that lead to an email address or file.
Keep promotion assets and landing-page offers consistent
Google Ads promotion assets can describe percentage or monetary discounts and include conditions such as a promo code, dates, or a spending limit. A click should take the visitor to the offer on your site. Make sure the asset and destination agree on the price, who qualifies, how to redeem the deal, and when it is valid. For a local promotion, include key conditions and a link to terms when available.
Google says occasion-specific promotion assets must be created or edited within six months of the occasion’s start date to be eligible to serve. Check the current promotion asset guidance when setting up a time-sensitive offer.
For retailers, accurate product information matters beyond the landing page. Google recommends reviewing product descriptions, prices, promotion offers, shipping, returns, and other feed attributes, and verifying the information supplied to Google. Use sufficiently varied, quality images or video where the applicable enhanced ad units call for them.
Should you use a general page or an offer-specific page?
There is no universal winning configuration in Google’s guidance. Choose the destination that most directly answers the ad and query, shows the relevant offer and its conditions, and makes the desired action easy.
Rank #4
| Choice | What to check |
|---|---|
| General page | Does it quickly lead visitors to the product or service in the ad? Are the relevant details and action easy to find? |
| Offer-specific page | Does it show the exact advertised offer, eligibility, redemption method, and dates? Can visitors complete the action without unnecessary steps? |
An offer-specific destination can make a promotion easier to verify when it presents the exact terms clearly. A broader page may be appropriate when it still meets the visitor’s intent without making them hunt for the advertised item or action.

AI Max can select a relevant URL on your domain and customize ad text using content from existing ads, landing pages, and assets. That means the destination may not always be the final URL you chose manually. Google states that final URL expansion requires text customization.
Before enabling this automation, compare the control and tracking implications of the two approaches:

How to measure results when placements are not reported separately
Evaluate campaign performance against your business goals, such as completed purchases, calls, or sign-ups. Do not assume you can isolate the results of ads shown within AI Overviews: Google says segmented reporting for those placements is not available, and the ads are currently reported as “Top Ads.”
