The Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition is an official anniversary controller, and it is listed separately as well as in a limited-edition console collection. To try to secure one, check the Microsoft Store and retailers for live preorder status, confirm the listing is for the exact controller, and compare the final price and delivery timing before you order. No verified information shows how many units scalpers have bought, and no ordering method can guarantee you will get one.
What the X25 Special Edition is
Xbox announced the controller as part of its 25th-anniversary celebration. Its translucent OG Green design draws on the original Xbox and its 2001 launch, with a green Xbox button, translucent top and back cases, and a translucent battery door. Xbox describes it as: “Celebrate the legacy of XBOX with XBOX Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition in translucent OG Green with touches that go back to the 2001 launch.” Xbox Wire’s announcement says it would be sold separately and included in a limited-edition console collection. Xbox said preorder details at select retailers would follow.
The standalone controller is the relevant option if you want only the accessory. The collection is a separate purchase path for shoppers who also want the console; Xbox’s announcement confirms it includes the controller but does not establish current stock or comparative value.
Where to check for a preorder
Start with the Microsoft Store US listing, then check retailer listings for the exact product name. Windows Central reported on October 6, 2026 that preorders were live, but retailer status can change; rely on the live product page rather than that dated report when deciding whether an order is available. Xbox also cautions that prices and availability may vary by retailer.

At the time checked on October 7, 2026, the Microsoft Store US listing displayed $79.99 and an October 20, 2026 release date, but showed out of stock. That is a momentary observation for the US listing, not a statement about every retailer or country. Check the page again before purchasing.
How to place an order carefully
- Choose the product: decide whether you want the standalone Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition or the limited-edition console collection.
- Check current availability: open the official Microsoft Store listing and retailer pages, and confirm that the page offers a preorder or purchase rather than showing out of stock or a notice-only option.
- Verify the listing: match the exact product name and translucent OG Green design. Review the seller, region, delivery estimate, release date, and return terms shown at checkout.
- Compare the final price: use the total displayed for your region, including any delivery charges or taxes shown before payment. The $79.99 figure is the Microsoft Store US listed price observed on October 7, 2026, not a universal price.
- Complete checkout only if the details work for you: save the order confirmation and check the retailer’s account or order page for updates.
What the scalper concern does—and does not—tell you
The available reports do not quantify stock, sell-through, scalper purchases, or resale markups for this controller. The phrase “beat the scalpers” should therefore be treated as a concern, not a proven account of how much stock scalpers have taken. A live listing and a completed order are the practical signals to check; no retailer, alert, account, or ordering technique is established as a way to prevent scalping or guarantee availability.
