On Android, tap Pre-register on an eligible upcoming game in Google Play. On iPhone or iPad, Apple calls the equivalent action a pre-order; find it in the App Store listing. Both stores say they notify you at release, but cancellation and download behavior differ. Here is how to sign up, withdraw where possible, and understand what you can—and cannot—control about launch alerts.
Google Play pre-registration on Android
- Open the Google Play Store and search for the unreleased game, or open its listing.
- If the listing has a Pre-register button, tap it. The feature is available only for selected upcoming games, and Google says pre-registering does not charge you.
- Google says it will notify you when the game becomes available. Eligible devices may also install it automatically; automatic installation is not guaranteed for every device. See Google Play’s pre-registration help and Google Play Console’s pre-registration overview.
Can you cancel a Google Play pre-registration?
Google’s current general help page says pre-registration cannot be canceled. However, an older localized version of Google’s help describes tapping Pre-registered and then Cancel on Android, or choosing Unregister on the web. Because that guidance conflicts, do not assume either control will be available: open the current game listing and check the options shown in your Play account.

Apple App Store pre-orders on iPhone or iPad
Apple uses pre-order, not pre-registration. Pre-orders depend on the app and territory. To review or cancel one on iPhone or iPad:
- Open the App Store and tap your account photo or initials.
- Tap your Apple Account name, then Pre-Orders. For an Apple Arcade game, open Arcade Pre-Orders instead.
- Select the game and follow the on-screen steps to cancel, if that option is available.
Apple says it notifies customers when a pre-ordered app is released and automatically downloads it to the device used to place the pre-order. Eligible devices may also download it when automatic downloads are enabled. A paid app pre-order is charged on the official release date. Manage Apple pre-orders on Mac or Windows
- Mac: In the App Store, open your account name and choose Pre-Orders.
- Windows: Apple Support directs users to Apple Music or Apple TV: open account details and choose Manage Pre-Orders.

What you can control about launch notifications
The official instructions describe registering, pre-ordering, and canceling; they do not establish a dependable per-game switch that silences only that game’s launch alert while leaving other store notifications on. Canceling a registration or pre-order is not the same as changing a notification preference. Likewise, changing broad device or store notification permissions may affect other alerts and is not documented here as a guaranteed way to suppress a scheduled launch notice. Check the current controls on your device if you want to change general store notifications, but do not assume they provide game-specific control.
