The right setup depends on the phone’s model, Android version, battery condition, and dashboard app; there is no single charger, mount, or screen-on setting that fits every Android device.
Check the phone before mounting it
Confirm that the phone can run the dashboard app or web page you want to display, connects reliably to Wi-Fi, and has a working screen and charging port. Check the battery’s condition, too. A phone that cannot stay powered reliably or whose battery is damaged is not a good candidate for permanent use.
Write down the phone’s model, Android version, and charging-port type before choosing accessories. Those details determine which charging methods and screen controls are available. If you do not know the model, look in the phone’s Settings app under About phone; menu names vary by manufacturer and software version.
Choose a mount and a suitable location
Select a phone wall mount or stand sized for the actual device. Before fixing it in place, check that it holds the phone securely in the intended orientation and leaves the charging port open. Make sure there is enough room for the cable to connect without being sharply bent, pinched, or pulled when the phone is seated or removed.

Choose a location where the screen is easy to see and the cable can reach a suitable power outlet without becoming a trip or snag hazard. Avoid placing the phone where it may be exposed to excessive heat, such as directly above a heating vent or in strong sun. Follow the safety guidance for your own model: Google’s Pixel 4a safety and regulatory manual, for example, says not to leave that specific phone where temperatures may exceed 45°C and specifically mentions a car dashboard and heating vent. That is Pixel 4a guidance, not a universal temperature limit for Android phones.
Match the charger and cable to your phone
Use a compatible wall charger and a charging cable that fits the phone’s port. Check the device manual and manufacturer guidance for supported charging methods rather than assuming that a connector or charger specification works across Android phones. The Pixel Stand charging instructions apply to compatible Pixel models; they do not establish wireless charging support for other phones.

Once connected, confirm that the phone reports that it is charging and that the cable remains seated with the phone in its mount. If charging is intermittent, inspect the cable, charger, and port and consult the phone’s manual instead of leaving a questionable connection unattended.
Keep the dashboard visible
There are different ways to prevent a dashboard display from turning off. Which one is available depends on the app, phone, Android version, and whether the device is managed for kiosk use.

App-level screen-on behavior
An app can request that the screen stay on while it is in use. Android Developers documents the FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON window flag for this purpose in its Keep the screen on guidance. This is app-level behavior, not a universal Android setting that every user can enable for any app. Check whether your dashboard app offers a screen-on option or supports staying awake while its dashboard view is open.
Plugged-in stay-awake for dedicated devices
Android’s Dedicated devices cookbook describes a plugged-in stay-awake setting for managed, dedicated devices. It is relevant when the phone is configured as a managed kiosk or dedicated device; it should not be treated as a setting that is available on every ordinary consumer phone.

Samsung Knox kiosk policy
For supported managed configurations, Samsung Knox documents a policy to keep a plugged-in device’s screen from turning off in kiosk mode in its plugged-in screen guidance. This is a management policy for eligible Knox kiosk setups, not a universal Galaxy or Android setting.
Samsung’s Always On Display guidance describes a separate feature on supported Galaxy phones and tablets. Do not assume that Always On Display will keep a full dashboard app visible; check the behavior on the specific model and software version.

Check heat and ongoing operation
Android Developers cautions that “Keeping the device’s screen on can drain the battery quickly.” An always-visible dashboard can therefore affect battery condition and device temperature over sustained use, even when the phone is plugged in. Check the phone periodically for unusual heat, swelling, charging interruptions, or other signs of battery trouble, and stop using it if it appears damaged. Consult the safety information for the exact model.
Android’s USB threat protection guidance is also worth reviewing if the phone will be connected to an unfamiliar or publicly accessible USB power source. A fixed installation using a trusted power source is preferable to leaving a data-capable connection exposed where others can access it.

Set it up in a practical order
- Test the dashboard first. Install or open the intended app or page, confirm Wi-Fi works where the phone will be mounted, and check that the phone’s screen and charging port function properly.
- Verify power compatibility. Identify the model and port, then consult its manual to select a compatible charger and cable. Connect them and confirm charging before mounting.
- Test the screen-on method. Check the dashboard app’s behavior, then determine whether app-level support or an applicable managed-device setting is available. Do not rely on kiosk controls unless the phone is actually supported and configured for management.
- Position and secure the mount. Place it where the dashboard is readable, the phone is stable, the charging port remains reachable, and the cable can run without tension or sharp bends.
- Observe it in use. Confirm the dashboard remains visible and charging is consistent. Recheck the device during sustained operation for heat or battery problems, following the manufacturer’s model-specific safety advice.
