You can play many PS5 games offline if they are already installed and, for digital games, Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the console you plan to use. Set this up while connected to the internet: sign in with the account that owns the game, download it, then open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Enable. Whether a particular game or mode works offline still depends on its requirements.
Set up your PS5 before you go offline
- Connect to the internet and sign in. Sony says you need an internet connection and your account to purchase and download PlayStation Store games. Install the game before losing access to the internet. See Sony’s PS5 Quick Start Guide.
- Enable offline play on the console you will use. From the PS5 home screen, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then select Enable. Sony says the feature is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in. With it enabled, users of that console can play games and media purchased and downloaded by the account, even when the console is offline. See Sony’s Console Sharing and Offline Play instructions.
- Check the game itself. Some titles or modes need an internet connection, a publisher’s server, or an update. Sony’s general setup guidance does not certify every game as playable offline. Check the individual game’s requirements and test it before relying on it away from a connection.
Digital games and disc games: what differs offline?

Sony’s Quick Start Guide explains that a disc game can be installed after insertion and launched from Games home. A digital-edition PS5 without a disc drive cannot use a physical disc. For a digital copy, offline access depends on the console’s sharing and offline-play setting as well as the game’s own requirements.
Understand the one-console limit
Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on only one PS5 at a time for an account. To move it, disable the feature on the old console before enabling it on the new one. Sony says remote deactivation of all devices is available only once every six months; the support page provides the account-management guidance if you no longer have access to the old console.
PlayStation Plus games and benefits
Some PlayStation Plus benefits can be shared on a PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled. A game obtained through a subscription is not permanent ownership: access depends on the subscription remaining active and the game remaining available. Cloud streaming is not an offline option because it requires an internet connection. See Sony’s PlayStation Plus support page.

If offline play is not working
If you are still online and cannot enable the setting, Sony recommends checking whether it is enabled on another console, checking PlayStation Network status, updating system software, restarting the router and console, and trying again. Some activation or service-status checks require connectivity. A padlock icon can indicate a license or network issue; Sony links to separate troubleshooting guidance, but that does not mean every license problem can be fixed offline.

- For a digital game, confirm it is installed and that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on this PS5.
- For a disc game, confirm the console has a disc drive and the disc installation has completed.
- If only one game or mode fails, check that title’s online and update requirements rather than assuming the console’s offline setting is the cause.
