To play a digital PS5 game offline, download it while connected to the internet, then enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the PS5 you plan to use. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Enable. The game must be purchased and downloaded, and the parts you want to play must not require an online connection.
Set up your PS5 before disconnecting
- Sign in to the account that owns the game. While online, open your Game Library, download the digital game, and wait for installation to finish. If you cannot find a purchase, check the purchasing account’s transaction history.
- Enable offline play on this console. On the PS5 you expect to use offline, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then choose Enable. The feature may already be enabled on the first PS5 used to sign in to PlayStation.
- Try launching the game before you lose internet access. This confirms the installation is ready and lets you check whether the game’s intended mode works without a connection.
- Disconnect from the network and launch the game. You can disconnect the console from Wi-Fi or unplug its network cable. The exact offline behavior depends on the game and mode.
PlayStation Support says Console Sharing and Offline Play lets users of that PS5 play purchased and downloaded games when the console is offline. The setting is tied to the account: it can be enabled on one PS5 at a time.
What works offline—and what may not
The console setting makes eligible purchased and downloaded content available offline; it does not make every game feature independent of the internet. A game may allow its single-player campaign offline while requiring a connection for multiplayer, server-based modes, or other online features. Sony’s general console-sharing instructions do not certify offline compatibility for every title or mode. Check the game publisher’s official support information for title-specific requirements.
There is also a practical difference between a game you bought and a game accessed through a subscription:

- Purchased game: Confirm that the purchasing account owns it, that it is fully downloaded, and that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the PS5 you will use.
- PlayStation Plus game: Your membership must remain active, and the game must still be available through the service. A subscription title’s availability and offline behavior can depend on the service and the individual game.
Using a different PS5 for offline play
If you want to move offline access to another console, disable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the old PS5 when you can, then enable it on the new one using the same Settings path. Only one PS5 at a time can have the feature enabled for your account.
If the old console is unavailable, use PlayStation account management to remotely deactivate devices. Sony limits remote deactivation of all devices to once every six months, so use that option only when needed.

- Check the account and sharing setting. Make sure the signed-in user owns the game, or that the account that owns it has enabled Console Sharing and Offline Play on this PS5.
- Check the purchase and installation. Confirm the purchase completed and the game has finished downloading. If the game is missing from your library, check the transaction history for the account that made the purchase.
- Check service status and system software. If activation or license checks are failing, check PlayStation service status and install current PS5 system software while online.
- Restore licenses. Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses and select the relevant licenses. You can also restore a license from the game’s options menu. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect your data.
- Check subscription eligibility. For a PlayStation Plus game, verify that your membership is active and that the title remains available through the service.
Before relying on offline access
- Make sure the game is fully installed, not just queued for download.
- Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the PS5 you will take offline.
- Test the game and the specific mode you intend to use while you are still online.
- Check the publisher’s guidance if a mode depends on servers or the game’s offline requirements are unclear.
