Short answer: Google Messages games have not been confirmed for public release. An October 7, 2026 report found game-related strings in a beta build, but Google has not published instructions or confirmed that ordinary users can play. If a Games option appears in your app, open it and follow its prompts; otherwise, there is no verified workaround.
Can you play games with friends in Google Messages?
Not based on confirmed public instructions. Google’s Google Messages help explains messaging and other available chat features but does not document built-in games in personal conversations. That gap does not rule out a limited experiment.
On October 7, 2026, Android Authority reported game-related strings in a Google Messages beta build. That is a development signal, not a Google launch announcement or proof that the feature is available to everyone.
What games were reported in the beta?
Android Authority reported these names in the beta strings:
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
- Word Scramble
- Chess
- Cup Pong
- Checkers
- Pool
- Basketball
- Four in a Row
- Crazy 8s
- Darts
These are reported names, not a confirmed final lineup. The report does not establish how the games work, who can access them, or whether they will all be released.
How to check for a Games option
- Open a conversation in Google Messages. Check the available conversation controls or attachment options for a Games item. No verified public menu path is available, so its location may differ—or the option may not be present.
- Update Google Messages. Use the app’s Google Play listing to check for an update. Google’s setup instructions also explain how to install Messages and set it as your default messaging app.
- If Games appears, follow the prompts shown in the app. Public setup instructions for starting a game or inviting another player have not been confirmed.
- If it does not appear, stop there. No source-backed workaround is established. Updating the app is a reasonable check, but it does not guarantee access.
What is still unknown
The beta report does not establish a public release date, rollout geography, supported app version, eligibility rules, or whether a game can be played with someone using an iPhone. Google’s reviewed help pages do not provide those details either.

RCS availability should not be confused with game availability. Google describes RCS as a way to use richer messaging features, but its RCS FAQ does not announce games. Likewise, Google’s business RCS documentation covers business conversations and interactive features, a different use case from games between personal contacts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will RCS troubleshooting unlock games?
No game-specific requirements have been confirmed. Google’s general RCS troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that Messages is the default SMS app, the phone has an internet connection, the app is updated, and Android and Google Play Services are current. These checks can help with RCS problems, but they do not guarantee access to experimental games.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Google says RCS availability varies by carrier and region, and participants need RCS for an RCS conversation, according to its RCS FAQ. That general requirement does not establish whether a reported game would use RCS or work across platforms. No game-specific device compatibility list is available, so changing phone settings or buying a new device is not a verified way to get the option.
