In the original Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 DMZ, solo survival comes down to choosing a manageable objective, carrying weapons suited to the route, avoiding fights that do not help you, and deciding how you will extract before you collect valuable gear. You have no squadmate to revive you: going down alone means losing the contents of your backpack.
This guide covers the original DMZ mechanics documented by Activision in 2022. It is not a guide to the separate Modern Warfare 4 DMZ announced in 2026; that release was planned for October 23, 2026, a date still in the future as of October 4, 2026, and its full loadout, contract, and extraction rules have not been established in the announcement.

What changes when you play DMZ solo?
DMZ is an extraction mode: deploy, complete objectives or collect items, then reach an extraction point to leave with what you have gathered. In solo play, a down is especially costly. Activision’s original-mode overview describes DMZ as a single-life mode and says a solo player who goes down loses the items in their backpack. There is no squadmate available to revive you.
That makes survival part of every decision. A fight may be winnable but still not worth the ammunition, health, noise, or exposure it costs. Set a small goal for the deployment, keep a route to extraction in mind, and reassess when your backpack becomes valuable enough that the risk of continuing outweighs the likely reward.

How to choose a solo loadout
There is no evidence-based, universal “best solo build” here: weapon balance, unlock paths, and available equipment can vary by version and date. The original overview instead supports a flexible approach based on range and the objective ahead.
Build around the route
The documented loadout could carry two weapons, two equipment pieces, a Field Upgrade, a Killstreak, armor plates, and a gas mask. Extra equipment, ammunition, valuables, and weapons occupied backpack slots. Keep a weapon for close encounters, but adapt to the ground you must cross: Activision’s example is switching a shotgun for a long-range rifle before crossing open terrain.

- ADAPT OR DIE IN A FIGHT AGAINST THE ULTIMATE THREAT
- Combat means making choices — different loadouts, different paths through the mission. Combat missions that provide more player choice. There is no one-size-fits-all solution – it is your choice whether to take the stealthy approach or go loud taking on any and all foes.

Found contraband weapons were variable, with zero to five attachments in the original overview. Treat a weapon you find as a situational tool rather than assuming it has a dependable attachment setup.
- For close quarters: retain a short-range option for buildings and tight spaces.
- For open ground: favor a longer-range option before making an exposed crossing.
- For a solo run: think about what the contract and escape route require, not just what might be strongest in a firefight.
Which contracts can a solo player take?
Contracts are optional objectives with tasks that vary. The official overview lists the following types for the original DMZ. It does not establish current completion times, payouts, or which contract is easiest in a particular lobby, so choose by the work and exposure involved.

| Contract | What you do | What to consider solo |
|---|---|---|
| Secure Intel / Geiger Search | Find hard-drive intel and upload it at a radio tower, or use a Geiger Counter to collect uranium rods. | Plan for travel to the objective; an upload or collection task can keep you in a location long enough to attract attention. |
| Elimination | Kill or confirm the death of an AI target guarded by combatants. | Expect a direct engagement and account for the guarded target rather than treating it as a quick, unprotected kill. |
| Hostage | Enter a locked building, rescue the hostage, and carry them to the nearest helicopter exfil. | It requires entering a building and carrying the hostage, but successful delivery also lets you extract. |
| Cargo Delivery / Shipment | Find a vehicle or boat with cargo and take it to a marked drop-off. | Consider the vehicle route and the exposure involved in travelling to the drop-off. |
| Hunt | Pursue an enemy Operator team marked as high-value because of its activity in the match. | This is a PvP pursuit, so it directly risks a fight with another team—an important trade-off when no teammate can revive you. |
| Destroy Supplies | Find two supply sites and destroy them with planted bombs. | The task requires reaching and acting at two objectives, which means more movement and exposure. |
Season 03 documentation later described Supply Run as a lower-stakes way for a brand-new Active Duty Operator to gear up by finding wooden crates. That is a dated seasonal addition, not confirmation that the contract is available in every version or today.
How to plan an exfil as a solo player
In the original overview, ordinary exfil required calling a helicopter at a marked location. The call revealed the location to other squads on the Tac Map and drew AI combatants. There were a finite number of ordinary exfils; after they were used, a final exfil appeared. Players who failed to leave became MIA.

Use a standard helicopter exfil
- Choose the exit before taking a detour. Keep a marked extraction option in mind while deciding whether another objective or item is worth the added travel.
- Approach with cover. Because the call attracts AI and alerts other squads, avoid treating the marked point as a safe place to stand in the open.
- Once you call it, stay deliberate. Keep watch for AI and other operators, and avoid lingering over optional loot while the extraction is exposed.
- Leave with time to spare. Ordinary exfils are finite in the documented mode; treat the final exfil as a deadline, not the default plan.
These are tactical implications of the documented mechanics, not claims of personal playtesting.
Consider Hostage Rescue as an extraction route
A successful Hostage contract offers another way out: carry the rescued hostage to the nearest helicopter exfil, and successful delivery permits extraction. This can combine an objective with an exit, but it requires entering a locked building and carrying the hostage. Weigh that work against simply reaching a standard exfil.

Season 03 documentation described two later additions to the original DMZ: a Heavy Chopper that required special fuel and could exfil by flying beyond map boundaries, and a purchasable Private Exfil at an unused point. These were seasonal mechanics; verify their availability in the version you are playing rather than assuming they are current options.

The original Warzone 2.0 DMZ and the separately announced Modern Warfare 4 DMZ should not be treated as one ruleset. In a June 7, 2026 Xbox Wire interview, the latter was characterized by Studio Multiplayer Creative Director Joe Cecot as “an action extraction shooter,” and the preview established solo deployment. It did not provide a complete guide to that release’s loadouts, contracts, or exfil mechanics. For background, see Activision’s November 14, 2022 overview of the original DMZ, Xbox Wire’s June 7, 2026 announcement and interview, and Activision’s Season 03 overview.
