Valve lists Windows and SteamOS + Linux, so the reliable, officially listed way to play is to use a computer running one of those operating systems. Mac compatibility tools such as CrossOver may be worth investigating, but the available official information does not confirm that the current CS2 build works reliably through them.
Can you play Counter-Strike 2 natively on a Mac?
Not through an officially listed macOS version. Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 Steam listing gives system requirements for Windows and SteamOS + Linux, but does not list macOS requirements. Steam Support explains that the message “Game is not available on your current platform” means the game does not support the operating system currently in use; it advises checking the game’s supported operating systems and requirements: Steam Support: Game is not available on your current platform.
That means installing Steam for Mac does not make CS2 a native Mac game. The Steam client’s availability and a game’s operating-system support are separate things.
What are CS2’s officially listed system requirements?
Valve’s Steam listing specifies these minimums. They are requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate or smooth competitive play.

These figures come from Valve’s CS2 Steam listing. They do not describe a tested Mac configuration, and meeting the minimums does not establish how well a particular machine will run the game.
Ways to play CS2 if you own a Mac
Use a Windows or Linux computer
The straightforward supported route is to play on a Windows or SteamOS + Linux computer that meets the corresponding requirements Valve lists. If you are choosing a computer specifically for CS2, check the current requirements and independent performance results for the exact configuration; the minimum specification alone is not a performance guarantee.

Investigate CrossOver only as an unsupported experiment
CrossOver is a general-purpose tool for running Windows applications on Mac. Its user guide covers Intel and Apple silicon Macs, but the cited guide is for CrossOver 23 and dates from 2023. That general Mac support does not show that today’s CS2 build will launch, update, perform well, or allow online play. Valve’s CS2 listing does not validate CrossOver as a supported method.
If you choose to investigate it, look for recent CS2-specific compatibility evidence for your Mac model, macOS version, and the current game build before spending money or time on setup. Compatibility can change with game, macOS, or translation-layer updates; online and anti-cheat behavior also should not be assumed. No current, reliable recipe or Mac performance result is established by the cited sources.

Do not assume cloud gaming is an available workaround
No cloud-streaming service’s current CS2 availability is established here. Check a provider’s current game catalog and regional availability directly before relying on streaming as an option.

- Want official platform support: use a Windows or SteamOS + Linux system matching Valve’s listed requirements.
- Want to experiment on your Mac: treat CrossOver as unconfirmed, and verify current CS2-specific reports for your exact setup rather than relying on CrossOver’s general Mac support.
- Need predictable competitive play: do not plan around a compatibility-layer setup unless current evidence confirms both reliable operation and online play for your configuration.
Valve has not supplied an explanation for why macOS is absent from the listed platforms in the sources cited here. The absence of Mac requirements is the relevant practical point; it does not establish Valve’s reasoning.
