You can play Apex Legends on Steam and access your existing progress, provided Steam is linked to the same EA Account that holds that progress. Before launching the game, check the account connection: progress is permanently tied to its EA Account and cannot be transferred to another one.
Before you play: check which EA Account holds your progress
Apex Legends is available on Steam for PC, and an EA Account is required to play. EA says progress is stored on the EA Account. Linking the Steam account you intend to use to that same EA Account is what lets you access the existing progress. EA’s Apex Legends FAQ and Cross Progression help explain these requirements.
- Sign in to the EA Account you believe holds your Apex Legends progress.
- Open the EA Account Connected Accounts tab and check which Steam account is linked. EA’s account-linking help covers connected platform accounts.
- Confirm that the linked Steam account is the one you plan to use. If it is not, pause before unlinking or changing accounts; switching the connection does not move progress.
- Launch Apex Legends from Steam using that linked account.
What happens if Steam is linked to the wrong EA Account?
Progress does not follow the Steam account to a different EA Account. EA says Apex Legends progress is permanently tied to the EA Account where it was earned, and Steam entitlements remain on the EA Account first linked. Unlinking may also cause issues with Battle Pass progress or unlocks. Read EA’s guidance on unlinking platform accounts before making a change.
If you have already unlinked Steam and lost access to progress, EA’s recovery guidance is to relink the platform account to the EA Account that contains the progress. If you are unsure which account that is, contact EA support rather than trying account changes at random. How Cross Progression affects multiple profiles
EA added Cross Progression in October 2023. If you had one Apex Legends account, EA says no account change was needed. When multiple platform profiles were linked to one EA Account at the rollout, the highest-level profile became the Cross Progression account. Accounts spread across separate EA Accounts were not merged, and their progress and content stayed with the EA Account where they were earned or purchased. EA says one EA Account can have only one Apex Legends profile; progress from two EA Accounts cannot be combined. EA’s Cross Progression help describes the rules.
Can I switch between playing on Steam and EA app?
Yes, EA says you can switch between Steam and the EA app, as long as you use the same linked EA Account. Do not launch Apex Legends through both PC clients simultaneously with that account: EA warns that doing so can cause progression issues. See the Apex Legends FAQ.
