TikTok lets you remove the search entries shown in your account, but the control is inside Activity Center rather than the general search screen. For the most complete user-facing cleanup, delete the history from there instead of only tapping the X beside one recent search.
The steps below apply to the TikTok mobile app. Menu names can vary slightly by app version or region.
Delete all TikTok search history
- Open TikTok and sign in to the account whose searches you want to remove.
- Tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Settings and privacy.
- Scroll to the Content & display section.
- Tap Activity Center.
- Tap Search history.
- Tap Select in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Select all search history at the bottom.
- Tap Delete all.
- Confirm by tapping Delete.
Return to Activity Center → Search history to check that the visible entries have disappeared. If the list does not update immediately, close and reopen TikTok before checking again.
Delete only some searches
To remove selected entries, open Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Activity Center → Search history → Select. Select the individual searches you want to remove, tap Delete, and confirm.

Remove one recent search from the search screen
TikTok also shows a shortcut for individual recent searches:
- Tap the search icon or search field.
- Find the recent search you want to remove.
- Tap the X beside that entry.
This is convenient for one entry, but it is not the same as using the full Activity Center → Search history control. Use Activity Center when you want to clear the displayed history in bulk.
What “permanently delete” means on TikTok
Tapping Delete all removes the entries from the Search history list that TikTok exposes in the app. TikTok does not describe this button as a guarantee that every internal copy of the data is immediately destroyed.
TikTok’s U.S. Privacy Policy says information may be retained for different periods depending on the data type and purpose. Its stated reasons include providing and improving the service, security, legal obligations, and exercising or defending legal claims. That means the precise claim is:

Does TikTok keep more than 180 days of search history?
Current walkthroughs of TikTok’s Activity Center report that the Search history screen displays searches from the last 180 days. The Select all search history action removes the entries shown in that interface.
That display window should not be treated as proof that TikTok stores no search-related information older than 180 days. TikTok’s published privacy information does not establish 180 days as a universal backend-retention limit.
If a deleted search still appears
A search-looking item is not always a saved Search history entry. Work through these checks:

Depending on the TikTok version, the in-app-browser Clear cookies and cache option may appear under Activity or Security. It does not replace Search history deletion.
Can you delete TikTok search history from a computer?
TikTok’s documented path for managing Search history is in the mobile app. Do not assume that the desktop website has the same Profile → Settings → Search history menu. If you cannot find the control on TikTok’s website, use the mobile app signed in to the correct account.

Delete the entire TikTok account instead
If your objective is to remove the account and its associated user-facing data—not just searches—you can request account deletion:
Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Account → Deactivate or delete account

Follow the prompts and choose the option to delete the account. Do not choose Deactivate account if you intend to delete it. TikTok describes deactivation as temporary and keeps the account data so it can be recovered.
Account deletion is also subject to TikTok’s stated retention exceptions. Data may be retained when necessary for legal or contractual obligations, security, service stability, legitimate business purposes, or legal claims.

Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data
- Choose the information you want and select a file format.
- Tap Request data.
- Wait for TikTok to prepare the file.
- Download it when it becomes available.
TikTok says preparation can take several days. Once ready, the download is available for up to four days, and data from the most recent 24–48 hours may not yet be included.
What deleting search history does not do
- It does not clear TikTok’s cache. Cache data and account search history are separate.
- It does not necessarily erase backend records. TikTok’s retention policy includes exceptions and different retention periods.
- It does not reset your For You feed. Watch history, likes, follows, comments, ad activity, and other usage signals are separate activity types.
- It does not remove searches from other accounts. Repeat the process while signed in to each account.
- It does not necessarily remove search suggestions. Suggestions can be generated by TikTok’s recommendation systems rather than copied directly from your saved history.
FAQ
Can I permanently delete all of my TikTok search history?
Yes. In the TikTok app, open Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Content & display → Activity Center → Search history → Select → Select all search history → Delete all, then confirm Delete. This removes the history entries displayed in the app, although TikTok does not guarantee that every internal or legally retained copy is immediately erased.
Why can I still see a search after deleting it?
It may be a suggested search rather than a history entry, the app may be showing stale data, or you may be signed in to another TikTok account. Recheck Activity Center → Search history, restart the app, and repeat the deletion on any other relevant account.
Does clearing TikTok cache delete search history?
No. Clearing cache is separate from deleting Search history. Use Activity Center → Search history to remove search entries.

Does TikTok really save search history for only 180 days?
The current Search history interface is reported to display the last 180 days, but TikTok’s published privacy information does not establish that as a complete limit on all search-related backend data.
Can I delete TikTok search history on the desktop website?
TikTok’s documented Search history controls are available in the mobile app. The desktop website may not provide the same menu, so use the app for the verified deletion path.
Will deleting search history reset my For You feed?
