To pair Sennheiser headphones or earbuds, put the exact model into Bluetooth pairing mode, then select its standard name in your phone, tablet, or computer’s Bluetooth settings. The control for entering pairing mode varies by model, so check the product name and follow its matching manual rather than assuming one button sequence works for every Sennheiser device.
Pair Sennheiser headphones or earbuds
- Identify the model. Check the name printed on the product or shown in its app, then open the matching manual for its pairing-mode instructions.
- Charge or power on the product. If it has previously been paired with the source device, remove its old Bluetooth entries first, including duplicates or entries ending in “-LE.” Sennheiser recommends clearing old pairings before pairing again (Sennheiser support: re-establishing pairing after clearing a device, updated April 14, 2026).
- Enter pairing mode using the model’s instructions. Pairing mode is different from simply switching the headphones on; use the model-specific button or procedure in its manual.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, or computer, scan for available devices, and select the Sennheiser product’s standard displayed name.
- Confirm the connection and test audio. Check that the product shows as connected, then play something to make sure sound comes through the headphones.
If you also want Smart Control app features, establish and test the audio connection first, then open the app and follow its connection prompts.
Pairing the Sennheiser HD 450BT
For the HD 450BT, start with the headphones switched off and keep them within 20 cm of the phone, tablet, or computer. Hold the power button for four seconds. The LED flashes red and blue to indicate pairing mode; this sequence applies specifically to the HD 450BT (Sennheiser HD 450BT Instruction Manual).
- Turn on Bluetooth on the source device and scan for new devices.
- Select “HD 450BT.” If prompted for a PIN, enter “0000.”
- Look for the voice prompt “Connected” and three blue LED flashes as confirmation.
If no connection is established within five minutes, pairing mode ends and the headphones switch to standby. Repeat the sequence to try again.

What “-LE” means in Bluetooth settings
Sennheiser describes Bluetooth Classic as the connection used for sound and Bluetooth LE as a separate connection used by Smart Control. Bluetooth LE is not the same as Bluetooth LE Audio. If the device list shows an entry ending in “-LE,” connecting to that entry alone may not create the ordinary audio connection. Select the standard headphone entry and test playback first (Sennheiser support: meaning of “-LE,” updated July 1, 2026).
Smart Control won’t connect
If Bluetooth audio works but Smart Control does not connect, re-establish the audio pairing before troubleshooting the app’s separate LE connection. Sennheiser’s app guidance recommends this sequence (Sennheiser support: Smart Control App Pairing Issues, updated April 6, 2026):

- In Smart Control, choose “Forget the device.”
- Remove the headphone entries from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Pair the standard headphone entry again and test playback.
- Reopen Smart Control and follow its prompts to connect.
- If the app still will not connect, power-cycle both the source device and headphones, then retry.
Connected but no sound
A Bluetooth status of “connected” does not necessarily mean the source device is sending audio to the headphones. Check these items in order (Sennheiser support: no sound in Bluetooth headphones, updated April 14, 2026):
- Confirm the headphones are charged and connected in the source device’s Bluetooth menu.
- Select the headphones as the audio output on the phone, tablet, or computer.
- Raise both the source-device volume and the headphone volume.
- Test within about 10 meters and avoid walls or large obstacles.
- Try another source device to see whether the problem follows the headphones or stays with the original phone or computer.
- If only a “-LE” entry is connected, remove the headphone entries and pair the standard Bluetooth audio connection instead.
Use a factory reset only as a last resort. Sennheiser’s support guidance describes using Smart Control’s device settings, then removing old pairings and pairing again.
