To pair AirPods Pro with an iPhone or iPad, turn on Bluetooth, open the case with both earbuds inside, and hold it near the device. For a Mac or Windows PC, open Bluetooth settings, put the AirPods Pro into pairing mode using the control for your case generation, then select them from the device list.
Pair AirPods Pro with an iPhone or iPad
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings and turn on Bluetooth.
- Put both AirPods Pro in their charging case, open the lid, and hold the case close to the device.
- When the setup animation appears, follow the onscreen instructions.
Apple recommends keeping the device software current. Wi-Fi or cellular access may be needed during setup to access Find My features. The minimum iOS or iPadOS version depends on the AirPods Pro model; check Apple’s iPhone and AirPods compatibility guidance.
If the setup animation does not appear
Put the AirPods Pro into pairing mode using the control for your case generation, then open Settings > Bluetooth and select the AirPods Pro from the available devices.
Pair AirPods Pro with a Mac
If you already set up the AirPods Pro with an iPhone and your Mac is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account, they should connect automatically. If they do not:

- On the Mac, open Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- Put both earbuds in the open case and activate pairing mode using the control for your case generation.
- Choose AirPods Pro under Nearby Devices.
If the Mac remains the audio output, open Control Center, select the sound output control, and choose AirPods Pro. Apple recommends current macOS. Automatic switching among a Mac, iPhone, and iPad requires supported operating-system versions, the same Apple Account on each device, and two-factor authentication.
Pair AirPods Pro with a Windows PC
- Turn on Bluetooth on the PC.
- Put both AirPods Pro in the open case and activate pairing mode using the control for your case generation.
- Open the PC’s Bluetooth device list and select AirPods Pro.
Apple documents AirPods as Bluetooth headsets for non-Apple devices: you can listen and talk, but Siri is unavailable. Windows menu names and screens vary, so use the Bluetooth device list provided by your PC rather than expecting Apple-specific setup prompts. Find the pairing control for your AirPods Pro case
The pairing gesture depends on the AirPods Pro generation. Do not assume every case has a rear setup button.

Apple’s current support instructions list AirPods Pro 1 and 2 with the rear setup button, and AirPods Pro 3 among the models that use a double-tap on the case front. Refer to Apple’s current model-specific pairing instructions if your case does not respond as expected.

Troubleshoot AirPods Pro that will not connect
- Update the software on the device you are pairing with, confirm Bluetooth is on, and check that both earbuds are charging.
- Put the AirPods in your ears and check the device’s audio-output list to see whether they are available.
- If they are missing or will not connect, put both earbuds back in the case, close the lid for 15 seconds, and reopen it.
- Enter pairing mode again and retry pairing.
- If the connection still fails, reset the AirPods using Apple’s reset instructions.
