To pair AirPods 4 with an iPhone or iPad, turn on Bluetooth, open the case with both earbuds inside, and hold it near the device to follow the setup prompt. For a Mac or Windows PC—or if the Apple setup prompt does not appear—open the case and double-tap its front until the status light flashes white, then select AirPods in Bluetooth settings.
Pair AirPods 4 with an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and turn on Bluetooth.
- Return to the Home Screen. With both earbuds inside, open the AirPods 4 case and hold it near your iPhone or iPad.
- When the setup animation appears, follow the onscreen instructions to finish pairing.
Apple advises using a device with current iOS or iPadOS. A Wi-Fi or cellular connection is needed during pairing to access Find My features. See Apple’s AirPods setup guide.
If the setup animation does not appear
- Keep both AirPods in the open case.
- Double-tap the front of the case and wait for the status light to flash white. That indicates the earbuds are in pairing mode.
- On the iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Bluetooth and select AirPods when they appear in the device list.
Connect AirPods 4 to a Mac
If you already set up AirPods 4 with an iPhone and your Mac uses the same Apple Account, they may connect automatically. Put the AirPods in your ears, open Control Centre from the menu bar, choose Sound, and select the AirPods if they are not already active.
Pair manually
- On the Mac, open System Settings > Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- With both earbuds in the open case, double-tap the front of the case until the status light flashes white.
- In the Mac’s Nearby Devices list, choose AirPods and connect.

Pair AirPods 4 with a Windows PC
- Open the PC’s Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on. Windows menu labels can vary by version.
- Put both AirPods in the case and open it.
- Double-tap the front of the case until the status light flashes white.
- In the PC’s available Bluetooth devices, select AirPods and complete the connection prompt.
Apple’s instructions describe pairing with non-Apple Bluetooth devices generally, rather than Windows-specific menus. On a non-Apple device, AirPods can be used to listen and talk, but Siri is unavailable. See Apple’s Bluetooth-device instructions.
Where is the AirPods 4 pairing button?
AirPods 4 use a touch control on the front of the case for manual pairing. With the case open and both earbuds inside, double-tap its front; the status light flashing white means pairing mode is active. You do not need a separate button to select the earbuds from the device’s Bluetooth list.

Choose the right pairing method
