Yes—the original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller works with Switch 2. To pair it wirelessly, turn on the console, open Controllers > Change Grip and Order from the HOME Menu, then hold the controller’s SYNC button for at least one second. Pairing will not work while the console is asleep.
Pair the Pro Controller wirelessly
- Power on your Switch 2 and open the HOME Menu. The console cannot pair a controller while it is in sleep mode.
- Select Controllers, then Change Grip and Order.
- While that screen is open, press and hold the Pro Controller’s SYNC button for at least one second.
- Wait for the player LED showing the assigned controller number to stay lit. That indicates the controller has paired.

Pair or charge it through the dock
As an alternative, place the Switch 2 console in its dock and connect the Pro Controller to the dock with the included USB cable, model HAC-010. Nintendo documents this dock connection as a way to connect the controller and charge it. If the included cable is missing or damaged, check that a replacement is compatible rather than assuming any USB cable will work. The controller can also be paired wirelessly using the steps above.
Troubleshoot a controller that will not connect
- Wake and power on the console. Pairing is unavailable while the console is asleep.
- Retry wireless pairing. Open Controllers > Change Grip and Order, then hold SYNC for at least one second.
- Check the controller model. Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance identifies the original Pro Controller as model HAC-013.
- Update and restart. Install the latest Switch 2 system update, then restart the console and try again.
- If using USB, change the dock port or cable. If the USB attempt fails, retry with wireless pairing.
- Check the player LEDs. If they light briefly in sequence and then turn off, Nintendo advises pairing the controller. If no player LEDs light, the controller may be out of power.
- For third-party controllers, contact the maker. Nintendo directs users to the controller manufacturer for third-party controller support.

How many controllers can connect?
Nintendo says a Switch console can connect up to eight wireless controllers, but the actual number varies with controller type and features. This is Nintendo’s stated maximum, not a guarantee that eight controllers can be used in every game or setup. See the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller FAQ.
