Compare image quality, frame rate, and input responsiveness separately; the best tradeoff depends on the title and your system.
Start with a repeatable 4K baseline
Before changing driver features, set the game to your display’s native 4K resolution (typically 3840 × 2160) and note the graphics settings you use. Play a repeatable scene and record its frame rate and any visible image-quality or responsiveness issues. This gives you a point of comparison when you change settings.
Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and select the game’s profile to review its available graphics options. AMD documents both global and per-game settings, but the controls shown depend on your GPU and system configuration. See AMD’s graphics-profile guidance.
Choose an upscaling route
Upscaling can help when rendering at native 4K is too demanding, but the image-quality and performance result varies by game. Use the same scene and settings when comparing options, and change one control at a time.

| Option | When to try it | Key behavior |
|---|---|---|
| In-game FSR | The game includes AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution controls | AMD recommends the game’s implementation because game-specific optimizations may improve upscaling results over RSR. |
| Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) | A compatible game does not have integrated upscaling | Driver-level upscaling; it activates when the game runs below the monitor’s native resolution. |
Try the game’s FSR controls first
When available, enable FSR in the game’s graphics menu and compare its image-quality modes in the scene you use as a baseline. Choose based on your preference for sharpness and detail versus frame rate; there is no single mode established as best for every 4K game. AMD’s recommendation is explicit: “For games that have built-in support for AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR), it is recommended to use FSR as game specific optimizations may provide better upscaling results over RSR.” Read AMD’s RSR setup and guidance.
Use RSR when the game lacks its own upscaler
AMD documents RSR for compatible Windows systems with Radeon RX 5000 Series or newer discrete graphics. Enable RSR in Adrenalin, then set the game to a resolution below your monitor’s native resolution; otherwise, RSR will not activate. Compare the result with the game’s native-resolution baseline, paying attention to fine detail and text as well as frame rate.
Understand what HYPR-RX changes
HYPR-RX is a convenient Adrenalin profile that can enable multiple Radeon gaming features. It is a starting point, not a bespoke 4K tuning result: its exact behavior depends on the hardware and game, and AMD notes that behavior can differ in HYPR-Tune optimized games. AMD lists Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer as the HYPR-RX hardware requirement; check its current HYPR-RX page for details.
AMD advertises “up to 2.3X” performance boost on that page. Treat this as an AMD claim tied to the vendor’s own scope, not a guaranteed or typical gain for your games or system. AMD also describes an RX 9070 XT test in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 at 3840 × 2160 and Ultra settings, using FSR 2 Quality and AFMF 2.1 versus HYPR-RX off. The disclosed system included a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32 GB DDR5-6000 memory, an MSI MEG X670E ACE motherboard, Windows 11 Pro 2023 Update, and an internal AMD Software build. The disclosure does not provide a numeric result for that test, so it cannot establish a specific expected gain for your setup.

Tune latency and dynamic resolution separately
Radeon Anti-Lag
Anti-Lag targets input latency, not image quality or resolution. AMD says it works best in GPU-limited scenarios. Try it when responsiveness matters, then assess input feel separately from frame rate and visual quality. AMD explains Anti-Lag and related gaming features.
Radeon Boost
Boost can dynamically adjust resolution in supported games. That may help performance, but the resolution change can affect image quality, particularly during motion. Enable it only when the game is supported, and judge the visual tradeoff in play rather than assuming a higher frame rate is automatically preferable.
Compare settings without confounding the results
- Record the baseline: Use the game’s native 4K resolution and note its graphics settings, frame rate, and any noticeable latency or image-quality issues.
- Test built-in FSR: If available, select an FSR mode in the game, then replay the same scene and compare visuals and performance with the baseline.
- Test RSR only where appropriate: For a compatible game without integrated upscaling, enable RSR in Adrenalin and run the game below native resolution so RSR can activate.
- Test other features one at a time: Try HYPR-RX as a profile, or assess Anti-Lag and supported-game Boost individually. Record which change produces which result.
- Keep the combination that suits the game: Prefer the balance you want among image quality, frame rate, responsiveness, and compatibility—not a profile name or headline performance figure.
Feature availability and game support can change with drivers, hardware, and game updates. AMD’s documentation does not establish one best combination for every 4K title, so verify that a control is available in your current Adrenalin installation and game.
