To open the barred gate in Crasorak Kara, the Dragonkin vault in south-eastern Temple Woods, go through the vault to the multi-exit chamber, climb onto the rubble, and use Windstep to reach the opening high on the wall. Follow the hidden passage and pull the lever at its end. You do not need a key, and the lever is not on the gate’s approach side.
Make sure you are in the right vault
This route is for Crasorak Kara in south-eastern Temple Woods. Do not confuse it with Thishepen Kara, a separate vault below the Runecrafting Guild. The barred gate in Crasorak Kara opens from the far side, so searching for a key or a switch beside the gate will not solve it.
What to bring
- Windstep and Air Runes: Windstep is needed to reach the elevated opening above the rubble. AllThingsHow specifically recommends bringing Air Runes for the spell.
- Food, Clean Water, and healing supplies: The route includes guardian encounters and fire and spike traps, so prepare for combat and damage.
- Room in your inventory: AllThingsHow reports that each Vault Core weighs 50 kg. Leave carrying capacity available if you expect to collect one.
Reach the hidden passage
- Enter Crasorak Kara in south-eastern Temple Woods. Once inside, follow the vault route rather than trying to open the barred gate from the entrance side. The official tutorial identifies Temple Woods as an early adventure area and says E is the usual interact key; controls may differ if you have changed your key bindings. Jagex’s tutorial covers the game’s basic interactions.
- Work through the guardian and trap sections. Clear the guardian rooms and make your way through the fire and spike corridors. The Crasorak Kara walkthrough describes a room with three ranged Vault Guardian Sentinels before the multi-exit chamber; use cover and keep moving while they attack.
- Search the multi-exit chamber from above floor level. Use the stairs to reach the raised section, then stand on the broken rubble and look toward the upper wall. The gap is high up and can be easy to miss when viewed from the floor.
- Cast Windstep and jump through the gap. Use the spell with a running jump to reach the opening. Follow the narrow passage through the rubble to the sealed room.
- Loot the room if you wish, then pull the lever. Interact with the lever at the end of the passage. The visible confirmation is the bars retracting; walk through the newly opened route to return to the central hall.
Which lever opens which door?

These are separate mechanisms. If your goal is the barred shortcut, use the elevated hidden passage; the stair-top lever is for reaching the Vault Overlord.
If the gate still appears sealed
- You cannot find a switch beside the gate: That is expected. The gate is opened from its far side, through the elevated passage.
- You cannot see the opening: Return to the multi-exit chamber, climb onto the rubble, and inspect the raised wall from that height.
- Windstep does not get you through: Confirm that you have the spell and Air Runes, then try from the rubble with a running jump.
- The gate does not stay open: A community walkthrough reports that version 0.9.2 fixed an issue where Crasorak Kara could remain sealed if a player left between lever pulls; it dates that fix to October 21, 2025. This is specific to the reported version and is not a guarantee about every build. If you encounter the issue, check your game version and try the route again without leaving between lever interactions.
What to expect in the sealed room
AllThingsHow’s September 16, 2026 guide describes a chest containing a Nature Rune, Rune Essence, Vault Shard, Clean Water, and two plans. Chest contents may vary, so treat that as a reported find rather than a guaranteed drop table.
