If it is not there, use Search in My Files and enter the file name. Galaxy phones natively support PDF documents, so you do not need a separate device or accessory just to view one.
Open a downloaded PDF in My Files
- Open My Files from your app screen.
- Tap Downloads. If you cannot find the document, tap Search and enter its file name.
- Tap the PDF to open it.
Samsung says most downloaded files can be opened from My Files. Its UK file-management guide, updated January 6, 2026, gives this route; exact labels and screen layouts can vary by phone model, software version, or app version. See Samsung’s My Files guide.
Choose another PDF viewer
On devices running One UI 8.5, PDFs opened from My Files use the My Files viewer by default, according to Samsung’s guide to Samsung Notes and My Files. To use a different installed app, tap Edit in the My Files viewer or open the three-dot menu and choose Open with, then select an available app such as Samsung Notes. On older software, the default behavior or menu options may differ.
Add notes or drawings to a PDF
- Open Samsung Notes and start a note.
- Choose Import PDF. Depending on the app layout, you can also create a note, tap the insert + icon, and choose PDF.
- Select the saved PDF, then add text or drawings in Notes.
- Save or export the note as a PDF if you need a shareable annotated copy.
Samsung Notes imports a copy, leaving the original file unchanged. It lets you add text and drawings, but does not directly edit the imported PDF’s existing contents. Samsung explains the import and export behavior in its PDF import and export instructions. Some features may require an app update.
