Keep both phones charged and connected to power, select From Android on the iPhone, pair the phones, choose what to transfer, and wait for the iPhone’s progress bar to finish. A compatible USB-C data cable is optional; wireless transfer is also supported.
Before you start
- Charge both phones, turn on Wi-Fi, and connect them to power. Keep them near each other throughout the transfer.
- Check that the iPhone has enough available storage for the content you want to move, including anything on an Android microSD card.
- Update Chrome on Android first if you want to transfer Chrome bookmarks.
- If you want a wired connection, use a compatible USB-C data transfer cable that supports data and works with both phones. Apple describes a direct USB-C connection as a faster option, and Google says a cable is more reliable than Wi-Fi; neither publishes a universal speed figure.
Move your data with Move to iOS
- Start setting up the iPhone. At Quick Start, choose Set Up Without Another Apple Device and continue until you reach Transfer Your Apps & Data.
- Choose the Android transfer option. Tap From Android, then Transfer with App.
- Pair the phones. Open Move to iOS on Android and follow its prompts and permissions. On the iPhone, continue until a six- or ten-digit code appears. Enter it on Android and connect to the temporary Wi-Fi network created by the iPhone. Apple says you can ignore an Android warning that the Wi-Fi connection has no internet.
- Select what to transfer. Choose the available content on Android and start the transfer. Keep Move to iOS open; do not switch apps or answer calls on Android while the phones are moving data.
- Wait for the iPhone to finish. Leave both devices near each other and connected to power until the iPhone’s progress bar completes. Android may indicate that its part is done before the iPhone finishes. Transfer time depends on how much content you selected; Apple does not give a fixed duration.
- Finish iPhone setup and check your data. Apple says a phone number and SIM or eSIM may be activated during the move; carrier follow-up may be necessary, and availability depends on the device and carrier.

What transfers—and what you must move yourself
Apple lists these categories for the Move to iOS transfer:
- Contacts, message history and SMS messages
- Camera photos and videos, and photo albums
- Files and folders
- Accessibility and display settings
- Web bookmarks and mail accounts
- WhatsApp messages and media
- Voice Memos, call history and calendars
Some free apps may be matched if they are available in both Google Play and the App Store and support the transfer feature. You can then download the matched apps from the App Store. Do not assume that every Android app or its app-specific data will transfer in the same form.

Apple says, “Music, books, and PDFs need to be moved over manually.” If you prefer Google Photos or Google Calendar, Google says you can leave Apple Photos or Apple Calendar unchecked during selection and use Google’s services after signing in. That choice does not guarantee that every app’s individual state will migrate.
If you already set up the iPhone
Apple’s guided Move to iOS transfer is part of initial iPhone setup. To use it after setup is complete, you must erase the iPhone and start setup again. If you do not want to erase it, transfer the content manually instead. In either case, keep the Android phone until you have confirmed the important data and account access on the iPhone.

Use the no-app transfer only if your devices support it
Apple also describes a setup transfer that does not require Move to iOS for supported Android devices running a compatible version of Android 17. The illustrated steps identify iOS 26.5 and compatible devices; Apple says Android 17 or later and manufacturer support for data transfer and eSIM are required. During iPhone setup, choose From Android, then Transfer without App, bring the phones close, scan the iPhone’s QR code with Android, and follow the prompts. If scanning fails, Apple describes entering a session ID and pairing code through Google Services on Android. This route depends on device and software compatibility, so use the standard app flow unless your manufacturer confirms support. See Apple’s device-specific instructions.

After setup, check contacts in Contacts or Phone, including names, numbers and email addresses. Open Messages and inspect recent threads and group chats. Check other data you rely on, such as photos, files and calendars, and confirm you can sign in to important accounts.

Google’s transfer verification checklist covers confirming migrated data. Back up anything you still need before resetting Android. Google advises removing Google accounts from the old phone, then using System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset); labels can vary by Android device. Follow Google’s instructions for resetting an old Android device.

If Move to iOS stalls or leaves out content
- Keep Move to iOS open on Android, and do not use another app or answer a call during the transfer.
- Turn off Android apps or settings that interfere with Wi-Fi. Forget known Wi-Fi networks, restart both phones, and turn off cellular data before trying again.
- If only some content transferred or the iPhone runs out of space, check its available storage. Apple says you may need to erase the iPhone and restart the transfer with a selection that fits.
- When restarting, make sure both phones remain powered and close together until the iPhone’s progress bar completes.
