Keep tracking the same Amazon product page, but treat its price history and its current seller as separate information. Amazon’s built-in chart shows price context; its consumer description does not say that it identifies which seller offered each historical price. When the Buy Box (Amazon’s prominent offer display, also called the Featured Offer) changes sellers, check the current offer’s seller, condition, shipping, and delivery details before comparing prices.
What changes when the Buy Box changes sellers?
The product page can stay the same while the offer shown with Buy Now and Add to Cart changes. Amazon calls this prominent display the Featured Offer; it may contain one or more Featured Offers. The product identifier (ASIN) identifies the product, not the particular seller or offer. Different offers for the same product can have different sellers, conditions, shipping costs, and delivery promises. Amazon’s seller guidance discusses the factors that can affect Featured Offer placement, including price, shipping, delivery, customer experience, and stock.
That distinction matters when a price chart appears to show a sudden change. It may reflect a different offer on the same product page, but the chart alone should not be treated as a record of which seller was responsible.

- Open the product detail page for the item you are considering.
- Where available, select the price-history link beside the current price. Amazon also says customers can access price history through the Alexa for Shopping interface on product pages and ask about recent sales or price history.
- Review the available 30-day, 90-day, or 365-day view. Amazon says price history is available in the U.S., UK, Canada, and India. Its 365-day history is rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India, so availability can differ by customer and product.
- Compare the current displayed offer with the historical price trend, then inspect the current offer’s seller, item condition, shipping cost, and delivery estimate on the product page.
A longer chart can provide a broader price baseline where it is available, but Amazon’s consumer description does not promise seller labels for historical points. Do not infer that a particular seller charged a charted price unless the page or another source explicitly identifies that seller.

How to tell whether a price comparison is fair
Before deciding that an item has become cheaper or more expensive, compare like with like. The current Featured Offer may differ from an older offer in ways that affect the total cost or value.
- Seller: Note the seller named on the current offer. Do not assume it is the seller associated with an older price-history point.
- Condition: Confirm whether the offer is new or otherwise condition-labeled, and compare it with an offer in the same condition.
- Shipping and delivery: Check shipping charges and the promised delivery date. A lower displayed item price may not mean a lower delivered total.
- Promotions: Review any coupon or promotion shown on the current offer. The Amazon consumer history description does not establish how every promotion is represented in the chart.
- Offer availability: Check that the offer is still available and that the product page continues to show the same seller and terms when you are ready to buy.
Amazon’s seller guidance says Featured Offer prices commonly meet or beat alternatives and advises sellers to account for shipping; price is not the only relevant factor in placement.

Can Amazon’s chart notify you when the seller changes?
Amazon’s published consumer description covers price-history views and Alexa for Shopping prompts, but does not establish that the chart logs historical seller identity or sends alerts when the Featured Offer seller changes. If your question is specifically “Who was selling this at each price?” or “Tell me when the Featured Offer seller changes,” do not assume Amazon’s consumer chart answers it.

A third-party tracker may be worth evaluating if it explicitly documents seller-level history and seller-change alerts. Check its current documentation for the exact country and product coverage, history window, alert thresholds and delivery method, and whether values account for shipping, coupons, or promotions. The accessible Keepa page identifies it as an Amazon price tracker, but does not establish those specific capabilities; verify them directly before relying on them.

For Amazon sellers and developers: monitor offer events with SP-API
Amazon’s Selling Partner API (SP-API) addresses seller-account monitoring, not general shopper alerts. Amazon says its pricing data and notifications include Featured Offer price and average selling price. Choose the notification based on the event you need to detect:

Use ANY_OFFER_CHANGED when you need offer-price movement, and PRICING_HEALTH when you need an eligibility signal for your own offer. Treat them as different events: losing eligibility is not proof that another seller won the display. Amazon also says its Competitive Price Threshold is based on external retailers, not other Amazon sellers. Availability and Amazon-reported usage
Amazon reported on a page published May 1 and updated June 24, 2026, that more than 50 million customers had checked price history since its 2024 launch, and that the average customer checks it three times a month. These are Amazon-reported figures, not independent measurements. Price-history availability and interface labels can change, and 365-day history may still be rolling out in supported markets.
