Moderate Super Chats and Super Stickers the same way as other live-chat messages: configure YouTube’s held-message and blocked-word controls, use slow mode or participation limits when needed, and have trusted moderators review the feed. Paying for a message does not exempt it from YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
Set up chat moderation before the stream
Start with your channel’s controls in YouTube Studio. The interface and labels can change or vary by device, so confirm the current options in Studio. YouTube’s guidance covers live-chat moderation, blocked words, and link controls in its channel moderation settings and live-chat moderation documentation.
Choose a held-message level
YouTube offers None, Basic, and Strict settings for potentially inappropriate live-chat messages. Basic holds messages YouTube identifies as potentially inappropriate; Strict holds a broader range. No automated system catches everything, and a held message stays hidden unless a moderator acts on it.

Use blocked words and link controls carefully
Add channel-specific terms to the blocked-word list if they are recurring problems. It filters messages containing or closely matching configured words; it is not a substitute for context-sensitive review. Review the available link controls as well if unwanted links are a concern.
Limit posting when volume becomes hard to manage
Slow mode limits how frequently each user can send a message. YouTube’s documented slow-mode limit exempts channel owners, moderators, and members. Participation restrictions can also help when abuse or volume makes the feed difficult to review. Tighter filters or slower posting may also delay legitimate participation, so choose settings that fit the stream’s audience and moderation capacity.

Assign moderators and define their scope
Add trusted people and give them only the permissions they need. Standard moderators can remove content, time out or hide users, and review held messages. Managing moderators have additional controls, but YouTube says moderator permissions do not provide access to Live Control Room or YouTube Studio. Moderate Super Chats during the livestream
Keep paid messages in the same policy-based review process as ordinary chat. YouTube says Super Chats and Super Stickers can be moderated like live-chat messages; visibility or pinning does not make a message immune from moderation. Its Super Chat and Super Stickers guidance explains how the features work with live chat.
Respond to a clear violation
Depending on the situation, moderators can remove the message, time out the user, or hide the user from the channel. YouTube lists timeout choices of 10 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and 24 hours. Hiding a user makes their messages and comments invisible to other viewers without notifying that user.

Handle held messages explicitly
A moderator with the required controls must show a held message for it to appear; otherwise, it remains hidden. Review it against the same rules you apply to other messages, including when it is a paid message.

Make continuous coverage workable
- Assign clear responsibility for watching the live-chat feed and held-message queue during each handover.
- Agree in advance how moderators should escalate ambiguous, repeated, or urgent cases.
- Keep a consistent channel policy so paid messages are not judged by a different standard from free chat.
These are operating practices for your team, not staffing requirements set by YouTube.

Understand what happens after moderation
Deleting a Super Chat after the livestream does not result in a refund. Separately, when YouTube moderates a Super Chat or Sticker for a policy violation, YouTube says its portion of the revenue is donated to charity. These are not creator-issued refunds. YouTube’s current help documentation says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google, calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted; YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. Revenue terms and availability can change, so check YouTube’s current Supers documentation for account-specific details.
Review chat and revenue records
You can review live-chat history and Supers, and YouTube Analytics provides revenue reporting for Supers. The live chat itself is not available after the stream ends, although a replay may be available on the archive by default.
