Measure your chest or bust, waist, hips and the inseam you need, then compare those numbers with the size chart for the exact scrub brand and style. There is no universal conversion between scrub brands, and tops and pants may rely on different measurements when you are between sizes.
What to measure before choosing scrubs
Use a flexible body measuring tape that can follow your body’s contours. Measure over the undergarments you expect to wear with the scrubs, and keep the tape level and comfortably snug rather than pulling it tight. Record each measurement and use the chart for the specific brand, garment and fit.
- Chest or bust: Measure around the fullest part. Cherokee defines chest this way; FIGS directs shoppers to measure around the fullest part of the bust. Cherokee Uniforms’ size chart and FIGS’ sizing information provide their own chart details.
- Waist: Find the natural crease by bending to one side, then measure around that point, following Cherokee’s instructions. FIGS instead describes its waist measurement point as the smallest part of the waist.
- Hips: Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and rear, as Cherokee specifies.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam to the hem along the inside seam of a well-fitting pair of pants, or have someone measure the same path on your body. Cherokee defines inseam from the crotch seam to the hem along the inside seam.
Follow the individual brand’s instructions if its chart describes a measurement point differently. A flexible tape is a practical tool, but accurate measurements do not guarantee that every cut or fabric will fit the same way.
How to map your measurements to a scrub size
- Open the exact brand’s size chart. Use the chart for the brand and garment you plan to buy rather than relying on a street-clothing size or another maker’s label. Start with Cherokee Uniforms’ chart or FIGS’ chart if you are shopping those brands.
- Choose the chart for the garment. A top and a pair of pants can have different key measurements. Check whether the chart applies to the particular style and fit.
- Find the size range that includes your measurement. Compare your recorded body measurement with the chart’s ranges; do not assume the same letter size means the same dimensions across brands.
- Resolve a between-size or conflicting-measurement result using that brand’s rule. Cherokee favors the size indicated by the hips when waist and hip measurements point to different sizes. It advises choosing smaller for a tighter fit or larger for a looser fit when a measurement falls between sizes. FIGS directs shoppers between sizes to use bust/chest for tops and hips for pants. These are brand-specific instructions, not a universal rule.
Choose a fit that gives you the ease you want
Fit labels describe how a garment is intended to sit, not a standardized fit shared by every maker. Cherokee describes its junior contoured fit as close to the body, its missy relaxed fit as roomier with ease and coverage, and its unisex fit as loose and spacious. Cherokee suggests sizing up from usual for more breathing room in junior contoured pieces; apply that guidance to those pieces rather than to all scrubs.

FIGS says sizes remain the same across multiple styles, while fit can vary by style. Before choosing between two plausible sizes, weigh the relevant body measurement, the fit label and the actual style. If you prefer more room, the brand’s stated looser-fit guidance may help; if you prefer a closer fit, follow its chart and tighter-fit direction where given.
Choose scrub pants by inseam, not height alone
Use the inseam option listed for the specific pants rather than picking a length from height alone. Cherokee’s current chart, accessed in 2026, publishes these approximate ranges; individual styles may differ, so check the product listing.

These are Cherokee chart ranges, not universal scrub-pant standards. For another brand, or a particular Cherokee product, use the inseam and length information on that product’s chart or listing.
