Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →In desktop Microsoft Edge, select the profile icon in the upper-right corner to create or switch profiles. To choose what follows a profile across devices, open Settings > Profiles > [profile] > Sync and adjust the available data-type controls. Passwords, personal information, and payment details have separate settings; be careful when clearing data because, with sync active, deletion can affect all synced devices.
What an Edge profile keeps separate
Each Edge profile has its own personalized browser settings, bookmarks, extensions, themes, and preferences. A new profile opens in a separate Edge window, so you can keep different browsing setups apart—for example, personal and work or school use.
You can sign in and sync a profile, or start without bringing in your existing data. A persistent profile is for a continuing browser setup; guest browsing is temporary and Microsoft says it does not save history or data.
Create, switch, or remove a profile
Create a profile
- Select the Profile icon in the upper-right corner of Edge, then select Set up a new profile.
- Choose Personal or Work or school.
- Choose Sign in to sync data or Start without your data.
- Select Confirm and start browsing. Edge opens the profile in a new window.
Microsoft’s instructions are in Sign in and create multiple profiles in Microsoft Edge.

Choose which data syncs
On desktop, open Settings and more (or press Alt+F), select Settings, then under Profiles select the relevant profile and its Sync page. Turn the displayed data-type controls on or off. The available choices can vary with the signed-in account and Edge version, so use the options shown in your own profile rather than assuming every account has the same list.
One detail to know before enabling favorites sync: Microsoft states, “If you choose to sync favorites, any tabs you previously set aside will also be synced.” See Change and customize sync settings in Microsoft Edge.

Manage autofill, passwords, and payment information
On desktop, these controls are in separate profile settings pages. Microsoft’s paths are:
- Autofill: Settings > Profiles > Personal info. Basic and custom information have separate save-and-fill controls.
- Passwords: Settings > Profiles > Passwords. Control whether Edge offers to save passwords and whether it autofills them; you can also manage saved and never-saved site entries.
- Payment information: Settings > Profiles > Payment info. Use the save-and-fill control and manage saved cards here. Payment information saved in Edge syncs only between devices signed in with the same Microsoft account.
For mobile Edge, Microsoft places password, address, and payment controls under Settings > Saved info, and sync choices under Settings > Sync. The mobile paths differ from desktop. See Your Microsoft account, your data, your choices.

Stop sync or clear data without surprises
Stopping sync and deleting browsing data are different actions. Microsoft documents signing out as a way to stop sync; the current Edge interface may place a sign-out control within profile settings. Before clearing data, note that Microsoft warns that clearing browsing data while signed in and syncing removes it from all synced devices.
If your goal is only to stop future syncing, use the sign-out control or the relevant sync settings rather than assuming a deletion will stay local. Read Edge’s on-screen confirmation carefully before proceeding. Microsoft’s guidance is at Sign in to sync Microsoft Edge across devices.

Where Edge Wallet information went
Microsoft has retired Edge Wallet. Saved passwords, payment information, and personal information remain accessible under Passwords and autofill. Wallet membership information, such as airline membership numbers saved there, is no longer accessible; do not assume Edge can recover those details. See Microsoft’s Wallet is retired in Microsoft Edge notice.
