It does not guarantee coverage in every search or control every ordinary web result.
Set preferred sources on a computer

Go to Google.com and search for a significant recent event.

When Google shows a Top Stories section, click the cards-and-star control beside its heading.

Search for the publishers you want and select their checkboxes. Google notes that sources that are not updated regularly may not be available.

Click Reload results. Selected sources may then appear more often in Top Stories when they publish fresh stories related to the search.

Set or edit preferred sources on iPhone or iPad
Use either google.com in a browser or the Google app:

Search for publishers and select their checkboxes, then tap Reload results.

To change your choices later, reopen the control, select or deselect publishers, and reload results. Google says settings saved while signed in remain the same in every browser where you sign in.
Change or remove a source
On a supported interface, reopen the same source picker beside Top Stories. Select a source’s checkbox to add it or clear the checkbox to remove it, then reload results. This edits your selection; it does not guarantee which sources Google will show for a particular query.

What the preference affects—and what it does not
Google describes preferred sources as a way to tailor Top Stories and supported AI Search experiences. In AI Mode and AI Overviews, selected sources can receive a preferred-source badge. The setting is not documented as a universal control over ordinary web-result rankings.
Top Stories appears only when Google detects a news-oriented search. Google says its systems surface relevant, high-quality, fresh content; its Publisher Center explains that news results are selected algorithmically using relevance, prominence, and publisher authoritativeness. A chosen publisher may therefore be absent if it has not published relevant fresh material or Google does not show the module for that query. Search results can also vary with language settings and location. Google documents those factors separately from preferred sources in its Personalization & Google Search results help.
Android availability
Google’s help page has platform-specific versions, but the Android-specific steps are not established here. The computer and iPhone/iPad instructions above should not be treated as verified Android labels or navigation.
