To change game recommendations in Google Play, open the Play Store app, tap your profile picture, choose Personalization in Play, then turn Personalize Play on or off. For a narrower change, use the options for device details or individual items in Your Play content. Play History has separate controls, so turning off personalization does not necessarily stop every kind of tailoring.
How do I turn off game recommendations in Google Play?
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Personalization in Play.
- Turn Personalize Play off. To enable recommendations personalized using your account data again, return to this screen and turn it on.
The corresponding setting is also available at play.google.com. The precise screens can vary by platform and locale; look for the displayed label Personalization in Play. What does Google Play use to personalize recommendations?
Google says Play may personalize app and book recommendations, offers, and search results. Personalization can draw on Play History, content associated with your Play account—including apps and games you acquired—and information in your Google Account. Recommendations and offers may appear in Google Play and in apps and games available through Play. Google’s developer guidance also identifies previously installed apps as a recommendation signal. How do I remove a particular game from Google Play personalization?
- In the Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Personalization in Play.
- Keep Personalize Play on and open Other Play personalization options.
- Under Your Play content, manage the apps or games you want excluded.
Google says excluding an app prevents associated app activity, purchases, offers, install and uninstall timing, and related Play Games activity and profile data from being used for Play personalization. This is an item-level control; it does not delete the app or its account data. Google says changes to Play content personalization may take up to 24 hours to apply. [Google Play Help: Computer]

Can I stop recommendations based on what I play without turning everything off?
Use the item-level controls in Your Play content to exclude specific games while leaving Play personalization enabled. To manage the broader record of searches, app use, viewed app detail pages, and offer interactions, open the separate Play History controls. There you can review recent history, delete activity, or choose a retention period. Disabling Play History may make recommendations less relevant, and other Google Account information can still be used for Play personalization. [Google Play Help]
What happens when I turn off Play personalization?
Google says Play will not use Google Account data for Play personalization when the main setting is off, but it may still tailor the experience based on your device, country, and installed apps. Turning off the separate device-detail-based personalization control also does not stop Play from using device information to provide an appropriate browsing experience or offer apps and games suited to the device. These Play settings do not manage personalization across other Google services. Google’s developer documentation points to Google Account Web & App Activity controls for that separate activity setting.
