To run a 24/7 YouTube study stream, prepare a rights-cleared video or playlist, enable live streaming on an eligible YouTube channel, connect an encoder with your YouTube stream URL and key, then test and monitor the feed. A computer-based encoder such as OBS can work, but the computer and internet connection must stay available; a cloud service can handle prerecorded playback without keeping a home computer running.
For Indian students, make the stream calm, legible and useful for long study sessions. Board schedules vary by board, class, subject and year, so direct viewers to their own board’s current official date sheet rather than relying on a date from a previous season.
Choose the study-stream format and audience
Decide what students will actually see and hear before choosing equipment or settings. The format determines whether you need a microphone, how much chat moderation is appropriate, and what rights you need to clear.
- Silent ambience: a static study scene, a clock or quiet visuals. A microphone is unnecessary; any music or ambient audio still needs suitable rights.
- Pomodoro timer: show work and break intervals clearly, with readable text and a consistent time zone if you publish a schedule.
- Prerecorded guidance: loop study prompts or spoken guidance you created or have permission to use. Check that permission covers continuous livestream playback and any archive.
- Live study-with-me: a host studies on camera or speaks live. A microphone can help, but it is not required for every casual stream. Plan who will monitor chat and what happens when the host is away.
Use a restrained layout: large timer digits, high contrast, minimal motion and no small text students must strain to read. A livestream is a study environment, not evidence that viewers will learn more or achieve a particular result; do not promise exam outcomes.

Prepare content and clear its rights
Use original material or get permission that specifically covers repeated playback as a YouTube livestream and, if you retain it, the archived recording. Keep written records of permissions. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate it if the material remains. Even licensed material may require the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream content restrictions and its Terms of Service, which place responsibility for necessary rights—including music rights—on the provider.
Do not assume that music or video available online is cleared for a 24/7 stream. Check the copyright safety checklist before publishing.

Make sure the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

- Sign in to the YouTube account that owns the channel and complete channel verification if needed.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- If this is the channel’s first livestream, complete activation and allow time for it to become available; do not wait until exam day.
- Confirm that the channel has no active live-streaming restriction and that you can access the intended stream settings.
Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live. In Live Control Room, create a stream or choose to schedule it for later.
- Enter a clear title and description: identify the study format, intended audience, subject if relevant, and planned schedule. Avoid implying an official connection with CBSE, CISCE, a state board or another exam authority unless one exists.
- Set visibility and audience options deliberately. Add a thumbnail and any useful details, then save the stream.
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key from the stream settings. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before using the stream again.
- If scheduled, use the watch page to share the event in advance. Scheduling can help students find the stream before it starts; it does not itself keep an encoder running.
YouTube creates a watch page when the encoder begins sending content. For scheduled streaming, start the feed after the preview appears in Live Control Room. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete, uninterrupted archive.

Choose how to keep prerecorded material running

For either approach, decide who will check the stream, chat and copyright notices, and how viewers will be informed if you need to restart it. The fact that a stream is intended to be continuous is not a guarantee that it will remain live without monitoring or a recovery plan. Set up OBS for a stable YouTube feed
YouTube’s instructions for an encoder-based stream are to connect the encoder with the YouTube server URL and stream key. The labels in OBS can vary by version, but the essential setup is the same.

- Install OBS from its official source and open it. Create a scene for the stream.
- Add the looped video as a media source and enable looping in that source’s properties. Add a timer or other scene elements only if they remain readable and do not distract from study.
- Open OBS Settings > Stream. Select YouTube or the relevant YouTube service, then enter the stream key from Live Control Room. If using a custom server configuration, enter the YouTube server URL shown in your stream settings.
- Open OBS Settings > Output and choose a video encoder and bitrate that your computer and connection can sustain. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, in line with YouTube’s recommendations.
- Open OBS Settings > Video and set the output resolution and frame rate. A mostly static study scene may not benefit from a higher resolution or frame rate if those settings make the upload unstable.
- Keep OBS open and prevent the computer from sleeping. Use wired internet where practical, and check that the connection’s sustained upload capacity—not just a brief speed-test result—can support the selected bitrate.
- Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, inspect the picture and sound, and then start the scheduled stream if YouTube presents that step. For an unscheduled stream, confirm the live status in Studio.
Choose resolution, bitrate and keyframe settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes encoder bitrate guidance for H.264. These are platform recommendations, not a promise that a particular internet connection can deliver the selected quality. Use a setting your connection can sustain consistently, then verify stream health in Live Control Room.

YouTube’s encoder guidance also recommends a two-second keyframe interval, constant bitrate encoding and RTMPS. Follow the current YouTube live encoder settings for options not shown here, and test the actual scene—including representative audio—before relying on it for a long session.

Make the stream practical during board season
Use dates carefully
Indian board exams do not share one calendar. Dates depend on the board, class, subject and exam year. CBSE’s 2026 board examinations were scheduled to begin on 17 February 2026, a past date rather than a date for a future season. For any upcoming stream, link viewers to the relevant board’s official date sheet and verify the year and cohort before naming exam dates.
Help students use a long session
- State whether the stream is silent, timed or hosted, and explain how any study and break intervals work.
- Keep the timer, current segment and any schedule visible without covering the main study area.
- Set expectations for chat, including whether it is monitored and whether questions will be answered.
- Consider enabling DVR where available so students can pause and resume. Test the viewing experience before launch.
- Assign a person to check stream health, chat and copyright notices during the broadcast. Document who can restart the encoder or cloud session and how the audience will be updated.
Troubleshoot common failures
