You can run a 24/7 sleep ambience livestream on YouTube without OBS by sending a prepared scene and audio through another encoder, either on an always-on computer or from a cloud service. You still need an encoder: “without OBS” means replacing OBS, not removing the step that sends the video to YouTube.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance before setup.
- A prepared ambience video and audio that you created or have permission to use in a continuous YouTube livestream. Keep records of permissions.
- An encoder that can send a live feed to YouTube and, for a continuous ambience broadcast, repeat the video and audio as needed.
- A reliable internet connection and a plan for power, restarts, monitoring, and replay retention.
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as livestreaming methods. For a prerecorded scene that needs to run continuously, an encoder is the relevant route; YouTube describes encoders as letting creators stream overlays and use hardware such as preamps, microphones, and cameras. Choose where the encoder will run

A dedicated mini PC is one possible local host, not a YouTube requirement. Whichever approach you choose, check whether the encoder can loop your media, recover after a restart or lost connection, and let you record a separate copy if you need one. No particular provider uptime or service-level guarantee is established here.

Prepare the sleep ambience video and audio
- Make or assemble the scene. Use your own animation, video, field recording, music, or soundscape, or material with rights that cover the intended YouTube livestream.
- Check the scope of every license. Permission for a standard video upload does not necessarily cover continuous live broadcasting. Confirm applicable rights for the live use and relevant territory, including music rights, and save the license or other permission record. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the necessary rights for content in a live broadcast.
- Make the loop seamless. Check the transition from the end back to the beginning, listen for gaps or clicks, and make sure the picture does not flash or jump in a distracting way. Test a full cycle before going live.
- Keep the creative work meaningfully original. Owning or licensing the files does not automatically make a repetitive stream eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies address repetitive or mass-produced material and expect original, authentic content.
Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a livestream, then configure its title, description, visibility, and other broadcast details.
- In the stream settings, get the ingest server details and stream key shown for the broadcast. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP; use the server and key provided in the Live Control Room. The exact controls can change, so follow YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, show it in a screen recording, or send it to anyone who should not control the broadcast. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
Configure a non-OBS encoder and go live
- Install or open an encoder that supports YouTube’s ingest method and can play or loop your prepared video and audio. Product-specific menu labels and settings vary; use the encoder’s own instructions for selecting a media file or playlist, looping it, and entering YouTube’s server and stream key.
- Set the encoder’s output to a format and quality it can reliably send over your connection. Use the encoder’s YouTube-compatible defaults unless you have a specific reason to change them. The sources cited here do not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every encoder, connection, and video, so do not treat a single preset as universally correct.
- Start the encoder’s stream, then check the Live Control Room to confirm YouTube receives a stable picture and audible sound. Confirm that the broadcast is actually live before leaving it unattended.
- Watch at least one complete media loop. Check for silent sections, unwanted transitions, a stopped playlist, or a stalled feed. If continuous availability matters, arrange a way to notice connection or encoder failures and restart the broadcast.
Plan for interruptions and replay retention
Around-the-clock live playback does not guarantee a complete YouTube replay. YouTube warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Its archive live streams guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local archive backup.

- If you need a replay, arrange an independent local recording where possible.
- Consider separate sessions shorter than 12 hours rather than one continuous broadcast. Splitting sessions is an operational workaround to consider, not a guarantee that every session will archive successfully.
- For a local encoder, account for computer restarts, power loss, and internet outages. For a cloud service, check its restart behavior and limits rather than assuming recovery is automatic.
Protect the stream from copyright and monetization problems
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may lead to a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination. Even a licensed third-party owner may need to add your channel to an allowlist; see YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Use original material or rights that explicitly cover continuous live use on YouTube, and retain the relevant documentation. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions: YouTube’s reused-content and inauthentic-content rules may still make a repetitive, templated ambience stream ineligible for monetization. Do not assume that a loop will earn revenue simply because you have permission to use its files.

Troubleshooting common problems
