The exact location depends on whether you use the desktop app, a web browser, or a phone.
Signing out of Teams on one device does not sign you out on your other computers, browsers, or phones. If you need to end access more broadly, use Microsoft’s separate Sign out everywhere option.
Log out of Teams on Windows or Mac
The Teams desktop app uses the same sign-out path on Windows and macOS:
- Open Microsoft Teams.
- Select your profile picture at the top of the Teams window.
- Select Sign out.
- Confirm the action if Teams asks you to do so.
After you sign out, Teams removes information associated with that account from the Teams app on that device until you sign in again. Other Microsoft apps on the computer may still be able to access the account.

This action affects only the current Teams session. For example, signing out of Teams on your office laptop does not sign you out of Teams on your home computer or mobile phone.
Log out of Teams in a web browser
If you use Teams at teams.microsoft.com or through your organization’s Teams web link:
- Select your profile picture at the top of the Teams web app.
- Select Sign out.
- If the browser has more than one Microsoft account signed in, select the specific Teams account you want to sign out.
Microsoft also documents a browser-level sign-out option. Select your profile picture at the top-right of the browser and choose Sign out. Be careful with this option: it signs out the selected browser account, not necessarily every Microsoft account in the browser or every Teams session on other devices.
Log out of Teams on iPhone or Android
The current Microsoft Teams mobile sign-out path is:

- Tap Settings.
- Tap Sign out.
- Confirm when prompted.
Microsoft’s current English support instructions group the mobile directions together rather than listing separate iPhone and Android button paths. The labels may look slightly different if your organization uses a customized Teams deployment or your app is awaiting an update.

Sign out of Teams everywhere
Use the normal Teams sign-out option when you only need to leave the current device. If you lost a device, used Teams on a shared computer, or suspect that your account is still active elsewhere, use Microsoft account security settings instead.
- Open your Microsoft account’s Advanced security options page.
- Scroll to Sign out everywhere.
- Select Sign out.
Microsoft says this broader sign-out can take up to 24 hours. It signs the account out of browsers, apps, and other locations, except an Xbox console. This is different from selecting Profile picture > Sign out inside Teams, which is normally limited to the current device or session. Microsoft documents the timing and Xbox exception.
Remove a Microsoft account from Windows
If you are handing over a Windows computer, signing out of Teams may not remove the account from Windows itself. The correct removal path depends on the account type.
Remove a personal Microsoft account
- Open Start > Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts.
- Select the Microsoft account.
- Beside Remove account, select Remove.
Disconnect a work or school account
- Open Start > Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
- Select the work or school account.
- Beside Account settings, select Manage.
- Under Overview, select Sign out everywhere.
Complete removal of a work or school account may require your organization’s IT administrator. Do not remove a company account from a managed computer unless your IT policy allows it.
Remove Teams account data from a Mac
On macOS, signing out of Teams and removing saved account data are separate actions. To remove the account information stored in Keychain Access:

- Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
- Find and right-click the account you want to remove.
- Select Delete [account name].
This removes the selected stored account data from macOS. It does not mean that the Microsoft account itself has been deleted.
What to do if Teams will not sign out or reconnect
A stuck sign-out screen or repeated login prompt is often caused by damaged local Teams data. Microsoft’s troubleshooting instructions recommend quitting Teams, clearing its local cache, and starting the app again.

Clear the Teams cache on Windows
- Right-click the Microsoft Teams icon in the taskbar and select Quit.
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter this path in the address bar: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams.
- Delete the contents of the folder.
- Start Teams and sign in again.
Clear the Teams cache on macOS
- Right-click the Teams icon in the Dock and select Quit.
- In Finder, open this folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams.
- Delete the contents of the folder.
- Restart Teams and sign in again.
Clearing the cache does not uninstall Teams. Microsoft says it removes locally stored web-client cache data, icons, thumbnails, local message history, display images, and other Teams add-ons. Teams can recreate the required local files after it starts. Messages and other cloud-synchronized content should load again after you sign in, although unsynchronized local data may not be recoverable.
Do not delete your Microsoft account just to log out of Teams
Signing out, removing saved account data, and deleting an account are different actions.
If you use Teams Free or a personal Teams account, deleting the associated Microsoft account can also remove access to other Microsoft consumer services, including Outlook.com, OneDrive, Skype, Xbox Live, and Windows. In the Teams mobile app, the account-closure path is Profile picture > Settings > Delete account.

Use Delete account only when you intend to close the Microsoft account and understand the consequences. For ordinary logout, use Sign out.
Which option should you use?

For most situations, the first option is all you need: select your profile picture in Teams and choose Sign out.

Does signing out of Teams sign me out everywhere?
No. Normal Teams sign-out applies to the current device or session. To sign out of most Microsoft account sessions across browsers and apps, open Advanced security options and use Sign out everywhere. Microsoft says this can take up to 24 hours and excludes an Xbox console.
How do I sign out of Teams on my phone?
In the Teams mobile app, tap More, tap Settings, and then tap Sign out.
Will signing out of Teams delete my messages?
No. Signing out removes account information from the Teams app on that device until you sign in again. Cloud-synchronized Teams content should be available after you reconnect to the account.

Why does Teams keep asking me to sign in?
The local Teams cache may be damaged. Quit Teams, delete the contents of %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams on Windows or ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams on macOS, then restart Teams and sign in again.
Can I remove a work Teams account without contacting IT?
You can disconnect the work or school account in Windows through Settings > Accounts > Access work or school > Manage > Sign out everywhere. Microsoft says complete removal of a work or school account requires contacting the organization’s IT administrator.
Is deleting my Microsoft account the same as signing out of Teams?
No. Deleting a personal Microsoft account can also remove access to Outlook.com, OneDrive, Skype, Xbox Live, and Windows. Use Teams’ Sign out command unless you deliberately intend to close the entire account.
The Bottom Line
For a normal logout, select your profile picture in Teams and choose Sign out. Use Sign out everywhere only when you need broader account protection, and use account deletion only when you intend to close the Microsoft account and its connected services.
