You can use a Samsung TV’s PIN to lock supported apps and broadcast channels. The menu path depends on the TV’s model year and region, and channel locking applies only to channels received by the TV itself—not channels supplied by a cable or satellite box.
Lock an app with your Samsung TV PIN
Use the route for your TV’s model year. Samsung’s Australia support guide organizes these paths by year and notes that its steps are based on a 2025 model; your labels may differ. Samsung Australia’s app-lock instructions and Samsung US support provide additional guidance.

The US support page gives the general route as Apps > Settings, then select the app and choose Lock/Unlock. If your TV’s menu differs from the year-based paths above, look for App Settings or Parental Settings in the Apps or Settings menus.
Lock broadcast channels on the TV
Channel-lock controls vary across model years. On some newer models, selecting channels and enabling the lock are separate actions.

2023–2026 models
- Open Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Parental Settings > Channel Lock Settings.
- Select the channels to restrict and choose Lock. Enter the TV PIN if prompted.
- Return to Parental Settings and enable Apply Channel Lock.

Samsung Singapore also describes enabling Apply Channel Lock, choosing channels in Channel Lock Settings, locking them with the PIN, and saving channel edits; feature availability depends on the model. 2022 models
- Go to Home > Live TV.
- Open the Live TV Guide using the remote’s volume button.
- Choose Edit Channels, select the channel or channels, and choose Lock.
2017–2021 models
- Go to Home > Live TV > Channel List > Edit Channels.
- Select the channel or channels and choose Lock.
2016 models
- Go to Home > Live TV > Channel List.
- Press the remote’s right directional button, choose Edit Channels, then choose Lock.
Check or change the TV PIN
Samsung’s US support instructions identify 0000 as the default PIN and recommend changing it so children cannot guess it. On the models covered by that guide, use Settings > General > System Manager > Change PIN. A regional exception applies: Samsung Germany says TVs sold in France and Italy use 1111 as the default PIN. Defaults are not universal, and a PIN previously changed on your TV will no longer be the factory default. If you have forgotten it, follow Samsung’s support instructions for your exact model and region rather than assuming either code will work.

Know what the TV lock does—and does not—cover
Samsung’s channel lock controls supported channels received directly by the TV, such as terrestrial or satellite channels. It does not lock channels coming from an external set-top box; use the parental controls offered by that service provider instead. See Samsung’s channel-lock guidance.
App locking is also limited to apps supported by the TV’s lock feature. It should not be treated as a way to lock every streaming-service profile, HDMI input, or external device. Some streaming services provide their own parental controls; Samsung’s US support page points to services including Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and HBO Max for service-level controls.

If a lock option is missing
- Check the model-year path. Samsung changes menu labels and locations across generations, and the available feature can vary by model and region.
- Confirm the channel source. The TV’s channel lock is for channels tuned by the TV, not those delivered through an external box.
- Look for both channel controls. On models with Apply Channel Lock, selecting and locking channels may not be enough until that setting is enabled.
- Use the TV’s own menu as the final check. If the path above is absent, search Settings or Parental Settings for App Lock or Channel Lock; Samsung notes that steps may differ by model.
