If the destination is not listed as a direct option, use its custom streaming details: a stream URL, stream key, and public page URL. Your available routes depend on your account, host permissions, administrator settings, and the destination.
Choose a livestream route
First decide whether Zoom offers a direct option for your destination or whether you need to configure a custom stream. Zoom’s meeting settings can permit Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, or a custom live streaming service, but the account administrator controls which options are available. - Direct option: Choose the destination from the meeting controls when it is enabled and available to the host.
- Custom stream: Enter the destination’s stream URL, stream key, and public page URL in Zoom’s custom streaming setup.
Enable livestreaming and check permissions
Zoom identifies Pro, Business, or Enterprise as the account-level requirement for enabling meeting livestreaming. An account owner or administrator with settings privileges can enable it and choose permitted services. Individual users can also check their meeting setting in the web portal, but an account- or group-level lock may prevent changes. If you cannot find or change the setting, ask your Zoom administrator.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an account owner or administrator with settings privileges.
- Go to Account Management > Account Settings > Meeting > In Meeting (Advanced).
- Enable Allow livestreaming of meetings, then select the destinations the account should allow.
- Check the setting at the user level if needed; a higher-level lock must be changed by the administrator who controls it.
Destination requirements are not interchangeable. For example, Zoom’s Facebook instructions specify a Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise account, a licensed host, an eligible Facebook account, and the Facebook livestream option enabled. Selecting Facebook’s Full HD option also requires that higher-quality option to be enabled. Check Zoom’s Facebook streaming requirements for that route.

Start a direct stream to Facebook
When Facebook is an enabled option for your meeting, start the meeting in the Zoom desktop app and use its meeting controls to begin the broadcast.
- Start the meeting in the Zoom desktop app.
- In the meeting controls, select More > Live broadcasting > Live on Facebook.
- Sign in to Facebook when prompted.
- Enter a title and description, choose where to post, and set the audience visibility.
- Start the Facebook livestream.
Zoom notes that Facebook groups and certain business pages may need the custom streaming route because of Facebook API changes; its article describes this change as of April 2024. Check the destination choices Facebook presents for your account rather than assuming every group or page is supported by the direct option.

Choose a useful meeting layout
For multiple speakers with cameras on, Zoom recommends Gallery view. If you share your screen, the shared content occupies the large video area; a speaker with their camera on appears as a thumbnail.
Set up a custom site or RTMP destination
Use custom streaming when the intended destination is not available as a direct meeting-control option. The service must be enabled by your Zoom account administrator, and the receiving platform must provide the connection details. Zoom’s setup is described in its custom-site livestreaming instructions.

- Stream URL: The destination’s server address.
- Stream key: The credential the destination uses to receive the stream. Treat it as private.
- Live-stream page URL: The public page where viewers will watch. Zoom requires the livestreaming URLs to be public.
Configure a scheduled meeting
- Schedule the meeting in the Zoom web portal and save it.
- Open the meeting’s Live Streaming settings.
- Choose the custom streaming configuration and enter the stream URL, stream key, and public page URL from the receiving service.
- Save the configuration.
- Start the meeting, then start the livestream from the meeting controls.
Follow the receiving service’s own instructions for generating credentials and setting audience access. Custom RTMP options and moderation are determined by that service.
Consider the Zoom Live Streaming app as an alternate route
Zoom also documents the Zoom Live Streaming app as a separate way to stream to YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch, with custom RTMP for other platforms. It supports streaming to up to three services simultaneously, and only the host can initiate streams. Its moderation support is limited to YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. This app-based route is distinct from configuring custom streaming on a scheduled meeting; see Zoom’s Live Streaming app instructions.

Stop the stream without ending the meeting
With Facebook custom streaming, stopping the live stream can end the social broadcast while leaving the Zoom meeting running. Ending the Zoom meeting also ends the stream. Read the control label before selecting it so you stop the broadcast without accidentally closing the meeting—or end both when that is what you intend.

Ordinary software livestreaming is configured through Zoom and the destination; it does not require a capture card. Capture equipment is relevant to a more involved production setup that feeds an HDMI source into Zoom. Zoom’s broadcasting guide gives the Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus as an example of HDMI capture equipment, not as a requirement or endorsement for a standard meeting stream.
