When Microsoft asks you to authorize, use the Xbox account you intend to connect. Then check the linked account and, if you are setting up Game Pass, confirm that the subscription is active on that same account.
Link Battle.net to the correct Xbox account
- Sign in to the Battle.net account you want to connect.
- Open Account Management → Connections.
- Find Xbox Network. If no Xbox account is shown, select +Connect.
- Complete Microsoft’s authorization flow using the intended Xbox/Microsoft account. Check which account is signed in before approving access.
- Return to Connections and confirm that the displayed Xbox account is the one you meant to link.
Blizzard’s Game Pass setup guidance also notes that links made before March 5, 2024 may have a confirmation action beside the Xbox account listing. If you see it, select it to confirm the connection.
Verify the account for Game Pass
Game Pass access depends on using the intended Xbox identity and having an eligible active subscription. Check these locations:
- Battle.net: Account Management → Connections should list the Xbox account that owns the subscription.
- Battle.net subscription status: Check Games and Subscriptions for an active Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription.
- Microsoft: Check Services & Subscriptions while signed in to the same Xbox/Microsoft account.
If any page shows a different account or no active subscription, resolve that mismatch before repeating the linking flow.

Troubleshoot linking and sign-in problems
The wrong Xbox account is linked
First identify the account currently listed under Battle.net Account Management → Connections. Blizzard’s Game Pass guidance describes a recovery path when more than 90 days have elapsed since the accounts were linked: disconnect the listed account and connect the correct one. If fewer than 90 days have passed, that guidance says you may need a different Battle.net account to link the intended Xbox account.
Do not unlink until you have checked the warning shown on your account page. Blizzard says cooldowns can apply, and the account page displays the applicable cooldown; support cannot bypass it. The 90-day threshold in the Game Pass guidance is specific to that recovery path, not a universal rule for every account-link change.

The Xbox account is already linked to another Battle.net account
Check Connections on both identities. Blizzard says a Battle.net account can have one Xbox account linked, and an Xbox account cannot be linked to multiple Battle.net accounts. A Battle.net account must also be fully registered rather than a trial account. If you find an existing connection that needs to change, check the account-specific cooldown before disconnecting it. Blizzard’s third-party account-linking guidance explains these restrictions; certain new connections may require waiting up to 30 days. That general waiting period is distinct from the 90-day Game Pass recovery guidance.
“Provider did not accept user authorization” appears
Make sure the Microsoft account being authorized is the intended Xbox identity, then consult Blizzard’s article, “Unable to link Xbox Account – ‘Provider did not accept user authorization’”. Blizzard identifies this as a specific linking error, but its detailed resolution steps are not established here. Avoid treating unrelated network or PC-cleanup steps as a confirmed fix for this authorization message.

Game Pass or sign-in still looks wrong
Recheck the Xbox identity shown in Battle.net Connections, then compare it with the account shown in Microsoft Services & Subscriptions. Confirm that the same account has an active Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription. A successful account link alone does not establish that the subscription is active on the linked identity.
You see a console disconnection error in a game
A game-server disconnection is different from an account-linking failure. For example, Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 LC-202 guidance addresses that specific console error with firewall, router and port checks, resetting network equipment, improving wireless connectivity, and running the console’s network test. Use those steps only when LC-202 or the relevant connectivity problem applies; they do not change which Xbox identity is linked or remove an account-link cooldown. Blizzard also warns that disconnecting and reconnecting a linked console account can initiate a cooldown.
