Instagram’s personal daily time alert reminds you when you reach the amount of time you choose; it is not a guaranteed lock on the app. Set it in Instagram’s activity or time-management settings, then use your iPhone’s Screen Time controls if you want an app allowance or schedule at the device level.
Set an Instagram daily time reminder
Instagram’s time area includes a dashboard of time spent in the app over the past week and a customizable daily alert. Menu wording can vary by app version, so use the labels below as signposts rather than assuming every account has the same path.
- Open your profile and settings. Tap your profile picture, then the menu button. In the older route documented by Meta, open Settings > Your Activity. A June 2026 third-party guide reports a newer route: Settings and activity > Time management > Daily limit. If neither matches, look for Your Activity, Time spent, or Time management.
- Review your time. Find the time dashboard to see your average use and past-week activity. In Meta’s older description, tapping a day shows that day’s total.
- Choose a daily amount. Use the daily reminder or alert control to select the time at which Instagram should notify you. The precise labels and available choices may differ by version.
- Change or remove it when needed. Return to the same control to adjust or cancel the reminder. Meta says the reminder can be changed or canceled at any time (Meta Newsroom).
The daily alert is a prompt, not a promise that Instagram will block further use. If you need a device-level limit, use the iPhone option below.
Use Instagram’s break reminder or mute notifications
Break reminders
Instagram also offers a separate break reminder for a visit to the app. Meta’s Safety Center lists intervals of 10, 20, or 30 minutes. This is distinct from a daily limit: it prompts you to take a break during a session rather than setting an app-wide daily lockout. See Instagram’s Safety Center for its description.

Mute push notifications
If alerts keep pulling you back into Instagram, use the app’s Notification Settings to mute push notifications. This reduces interruptions but does not set a time allowance or restrict app access. Meta describes this option alongside its time tools in its time-management announcement.
Set an iPhone-level app allowance or schedule
Apple’s Screen Time guide documents app time allowances and schedules. These controls operate at the device level, rather than only inside Instagram. Follow Apple’s current instructions for setting up Screen Time and choose the app allowance or schedule that fits your goal.

Meta says parents and caregivers can initiate Instagram supervision and set specific times during the day or week to limit a supervised teen’s use. These are parent-managed restrictions, not the personal daily reminder described above. Availability and controls depend on supervision and the account; see Meta’s parental supervision information.

Meta’s 2026 announcement described a separate agreement for a default two-hour daily limit shared across Facebook and Instagram for users under 18 in participating U.S. states and territories. It said parental permission would be required to turn the limit off and that the agreement was pending judicial approval. That announcement does not establish a global feature or an adult limit; check Meta’s 2026 announcement for status before relying on it.
