You can limit personalized ads and manage some Xbox-related account data through Microsoft’s ad settings, Xbox privacy settings, and Privacy Dashboard. These controls do different jobs: opting out of personalized ads does not remove every dashboard promotion or stop data Microsoft says it needs to operate and secure Xbox services.
Turn off personalized ads on your Microsoft account

Open Microsoft’s ad settings while signed in to the account you use on Xbox.

Opt out of personalized advertising. Microsoft says the signed-in preference stays with the account until you change it or delete the account. It also says opting out automatically opts you out of sharing data for personalized ads on third-party sites.
This setting changes how ads are personalized; it is not an ad blocker or an all-ads-off switch. Microsoft does not establish that it removes every promotion from the Xbox dashboard.

Review Xbox privacy settings
Xbox profile privacy settings are separate from Microsoft’s advertising preference. Microsoft directs users to manage Xbox privacy settings on the console or at Xbox.com. These settings govern Xbox privacy and safety choices, not a universal setting for removing ads.
Microsoft’s official guidance points to the console or Xbox.com rather than establishing a single menu sequence here. Labels and available choices can vary with system updates and account context, so use the current privacy settings screen for your profile.

Review and clear data in the Privacy Dashboard
Visit the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard to review or clear some account data and manage advertising preferences. The dashboard is not a complete ledger of Xbox data: Microsoft says not all data is displayed, and what is available can depend on sign-in, feature use, and regional support.
What data does Xbox collect?
Microsoft describes Xbox data categories that include game and app use, purchases, console and network performance, and social activity. Privacy and advertising controls do not eliminate data Microsoft says is required to provide and secure its services. Reviewing or clearing information shown in the Privacy Dashboard therefore should not be treated as stopping all Xbox service data collection.

Use family controls for a child’s Xbox account
A parent or guardian acting as a family organizer can manage a child’s Xbox profile privacy settings. Microsoft also provides child experience controls through the Xbox Family Settings app; the Xbox Transparency Report describes customizable parental controls. Access and deletion rights for child data can vary by location.

Microsoft’s Windows Personalized offers setting covers ads, tips, and recommendations in Windows. Microsoft says it does not affect offers in other Microsoft products. Changing it is not a way to limit ads on an Xbox console.
