In METRIA, character EXP, equipped gear, Tarot cards, and Awakening or Limit Break are separate progression systems. A practical approach is to strengthen the character you rely on, equip useful gear, improve compatible Tarot cards, and consider advanced awakening only when the character is eligible and you have a reason to invest. This is guidance for choosing where to focus—not an official or tested ranking of resource efficiency.
1. Level the character you use most
A 2023 Pocket Gamer beginner guide says character EXP comes from quests and fights. It reports that most EXP goes to the character that defeats enemies, with some rewards shared among the party, and suggests switching to the character you want to level for the final blow.
Treat that as secondary-source guidance, not a confirmed current rule: the official notices cited here do not verify how EXP is allocated in the current version. If you are trying to direct EXP, you can use the final-blow tactic described by the guide, but check whether the character’s EXP actually changes as expected.
2. Equip and improve gear for your active party
Gear is a progression system separate from character level. An official METRIA notice directs players to Formation > Gear Board to equip gear and improve power. It also identifies Gear Upgrader Books among the game’s gear-related items. See the official September 2024 notice for those instructions.

Start with gear you can equip on the characters you actually use. The available sources do not compare the cost or benefit of individual slots, gear types, or upgrade levels, so there is no evidence-based universal rule for which piece to enhance first.
3. Match Tarot cards to the character or element
The same Pocket Gamer guide describes Tarot effects as character- or element-specific, and says cards can be upgraded. It also says Awakening raises a Tarot card’s level cap. Because this explanation comes from a third-party beginner guide rather than a current official mechanics notice, check the in-game card details before spending materials. Focus on cards whose effects suit the character or element you are building; the available sources do not establish a best card or a numeric upgrade breakpoint.

4. Check eligibility before investing in Awakening or Limit Break
Awakening and Limit Break are not universal upgrades available on identical terms to every character. In an official notice dated August 4, 2026, ASOBIMO stated that certain SSR characters can perform Limit Break at Awakening Level 7; eligible characters can reach a maximum Awakening Level of 12. Those figures apply to the eligible characters described by that update, not the whole roster. Check the current in-game roster and character details before planning around them. 5. Farm for a specific material, not an assumed best route
Official updates document sources for gear and enhancement materials, but they do not establish the most efficient current farming loop. A March 2024 update lists Omni Gear Upgrader Books among Alchemy rewards at levels 1–4 and describes Blacksmith crafting of equipment from collected materials. An August 2026 update describes Boss Dungeon rewards that include equipment and enhancement materials. These are dated examples, not a guarantee that the same routes or rewards are optimal now.

Choose a farm based on the material you need for a specific upgrade. The cited notices do not compare time, stamina, or expected rewards across farming options.

- Pick your main character or active party. Spend attention on the characters you use rather than spreading upgrades evenly across the roster.
- Build character levels through play. If the EXP distribution described by the 2023 guide still applies, use the intended leveling character to deliver final blows and confirm the result in-game.
- Equip available useful gear. Open Formation > Gear Board and improve gear for the active party where you have suitable equipment and materials.
- Invest in compatible Tarot cards. Check each card’s displayed effect and prioritize cards that fit the character or element you are developing.
- Review Awakening and Limit Break eligibility. Consider those investments when the character qualifies and the upgrade serves your plan; the August 2026 Level 7 trigger and Level 12 maximum are limited to eligible SSR characters.
- Farm toward the next upgrade. Use current in-game rewards and requirements to decide whether to pursue gear, books, or another material rather than assuming one activity is always best.
