Before you leave: bring less
Remove valuables you do not need for the day. Universal Orlando advises guests to leave unnecessary articles in the car and secure valuables in the trunk; that is guidance for that resort, not a rule for every park. Follow your destination’s own instructions for items left in a vehicle. Universal Orlando also says bags and personal items may be screened or inspected: Universal Orlando entry policies.
Keep the essentials you do bring—such as your phone, payment method, identification and necessary medication—together so you can account for them when moving between rides. Avoid carrying extra devices or accessories simply because they might be useful.
Before each ride: check the loose-article rule
Do not assume a rule at one attraction applies to the next. Some rides prohibit loose items for safety, and restrictions can extend to queue lines. Check the ride’s posted instructions and ask an attendant if anything is unclear; the sign and staff direction take precedence over general advice about pockets, bags or accessories.

- Universal Studios Japan says loose articles such as phones, cameras, umbrellas and keys are prohibited on most attractions unless properly secured, left with a non-rider, or stored in a locker or storage shelf. Its safety guidance directs guests to attendants for assistance.
- Six Flags Magic Mountain restricts loose articles on rides and in certain queue lines. Its park code says items may be left in a locker or with a non-rider.
- Canada’s Wonderland describes attraction bins and rental lockers, and says smaller items may be secured in jacket or cargo pockets or a waist pack if they do not interfere with the restraint system. Its loose-articles guidance was published in 2022, so check current ride signs and instructions.
Choose a permitted place for your belongings
When a ride does not allow you to carry an item, use the specific storage option the park provides or permits. Depending on the park and attraction, this may be a ride-area bin or shelf, a locker, or a trusted non-rider who stays behind. Do not rely on a bag, pocket or tether to override a ride restriction.

For example, Universal Studios Hollywood lists lockers at the front of the park and short-term lockers at select attractions. Its services page gives sizes and prices, but availability and charges can change; check the current page or ask staff before your visit.

Use a pocket or waist pack only when allowed
A zippered waist pack can keep small items together, but it does not make an otherwise prohibited item acceptable on a ride. Canada’s Wonderland identifies waist packs as one possible way to secure smaller items when they do not interfere with a restraint. Other attractions may require you to store the pack. Follow the specific ride’s instructions rather than relying on a general carrying method.

Walt Disney World describes measures including uniformed police, specially trained hazard-detection canines, screening technology and bag checks, while noting that it does not broadly discuss the details of its procedures. Its security information is not a promise that loss or theft cannot occur. The resort’s park rules also say it is not responsible for loss or damage to belongings, consistent with applicable law.

Keep track of what you bring and use the park’s approved storage arrangements. Official screening and visible security measures should not be treated as a substitute for looking after your own belongings.

A quick plan for the day
- Before leaving, remove valuables you will not need. If following Universal Orlando’s advice, secure valuables in the trunk rather than leaving them visible.
- At the park, check posted ride rules before joining or boarding each attraction.
- If carrying an item is allowed, keep it secured in a permitted pocket or pack without interfering with the restraint.
- If loose items are prohibited, use the ride’s stated storage option, a park locker, or a non-rider.
- Before walking away from a ride or storage area, check that you have collected the belongings you brought.
