You can keep prerecorded videos streaming on YouTube by sending them as a continuous live feed through an encoder or a cloud streaming service. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, but neither that listing nor YouTube’s setup instructions guarantee uninterrupted uptime. Before you start, enable live streaming on an eligible channel, configure the stream URL and key, test the feed, and make a plan for copyright checks, recovery, and keeping your original files.

What you need for a continuous YouTube stream

A prerecorded video does not become a continuous YouTube broadcast by itself. An encoder sends audio and video to YouTube over a live connection. It can be software running on a computer, a standalone hardware device, or a cloud service built to stream prerecorded videos. YouTube describes these options in its encoder setup help and lists Gyre in its category for cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. That is a listing, not an endorsement or a guarantee of uptime.

Choose a method based on where you want the stream to run and who will look after it. A local setup depends on the computer, encoder, and internet connection staying available; a cloud setup moves the feed off your computer, but you still need to check the provider’s recovery behavior and service terms. YouTube’s documentation does not provide a comparative cost or reliability benchmark, so check current vendor pricing and capabilities directly rather than assuming one approach is more dependable.

  • Software encoder: Runs on a computer you manage. Consider who will monitor it and restart the feed if the computer, encoder, or connection fails.
  • Hardware encoder: Uses a dedicated device. YouTube recognizes hardware encoders as an option, but does not require one; expensive equipment is not necessary to get started.
  • Cloud streaming service: Runs the feed through a provider’s service. Verify how it handles interruptions, resumption, source files, and account or program terms before relying on it.

Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming

YouTube’s current live-streaming tips say a channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Complete this step before planning a launch time.

  1. Verify the channel and confirm it has no restriction that blocks live streaming.
  2. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. If this is the channel’s first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
  3. Open YouTube Live and create or select the stream you intend to use.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Live

In YouTube Live, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder or cloud service. The stream key allows that encoder to send a feed to your channel, so handle it like a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the feed. YouTube supports reusing stream settings and explains how to reset a key if it is compromised in its encoder setup instructions.

  1. In YouTube Live, create or select the stream and locate its stream URL and stream key.
  2. Enter both values in the encoder’s YouTube connection settings, following that encoder’s instructions.
  3. Start a private or otherwise controlled test and check the Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public.
  4. Confirm the stream is accessible and the picture and sound are acceptable. Check archive integrity where applicable, as YouTube recommends in its live-streaming tips.

Prepare the video and archive separately

Keep the original video files in storage you control. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but its cited setup guidance does not establish archive behavior for a single continuous stream longer than 12 hours. Do not treat an extended live feed as your only copy or assume it will produce the archive you need. If you need a replay, plan how you will retain and publish the original files separately, and consult current YouTube help for long-stream handling.

Clear rights before going live

Owning the video does not necessarily mean you own every element in it. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for content used on Google services, including applicable music rights. The terms also make the provider responsible for relevant laws and regulatory requirements in the territory where the stream runs.

YouTube says that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. When a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the matched material. If the match remains unresolved, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.

If you have permission to use third-party material, coordinate with the rights owner about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you broadcast. A geographic restriction alone does not prevent interruption when the channel has not been allowlisted. Check YouTube Studio for copyright warnings or strikes, and be ready to remove or replace material you cannot clear.

Plan for interruptions and ongoing monitoring

A 24/7 goal is an operating plan, not a promise of uninterrupted playback. YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee continuous uptime. Decide in advance who will monitor the stream and how it will be restored after a computer, internet, encoder, or service problem. For a paid cloud provider, verify its specific recovery behavior and terms; do not infer automatic recovery from the fact that it is cloud-based.

Understand monetization limits for looping streams

Eligible channels may have access to live-stream ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships, subject to feature availability. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, so do not forecast revenue on the assumption that every viewer or ad opportunity will produce income. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance for the available features and eligibility conditions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

YouTube’s monetization policies also apply to live streams. Its policy page, updated July 15, 2025, calls repetitive or mass-produced material “inauthentic content” and says this type of content has always been ineligible under the existing policy. Original ownership alone therefore does not establish that an indefinitely looped broadcast qualifies for monetization. The policy does not determine any individual channel’s eligibility; review the current rules and your channel’s status before relying on revenue.
