To give viewers one recurring destination, share your channel’s YouTube Live page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/CHANNEL_ID/live. To reconnect your encoder for recurring broadcasts, create and reuse a custom stream key in YouTube Studio. These are different things: the Live page is for viewers; the key is a private credential for sending video to YouTube.
Viewer URL and encoder key: what stays the same?
| Item | What it does | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Channel Live page URL | Takes viewers to the channel’s current live destination. | Sharing a recurring destination with your audience. |
| Custom stream key | Lets an encoder send its feed to YouTube. | Connecting your encoder for recurring broadcasts. Keep it private. |
| Scheduled stream watch page | Points to a particular upcoming event. | Advance promotion and reminders for a scheduled broadcast. |
A custom key can be reused, but that does not make a scheduled event’s watch page interchangeable with the channel Live page. YouTube presents the channel page as the practical destination for finding the current broadcast; it does not expressly guarantee that the channel URL will remain unchanged forever. YouTube’s encoder instructions and live stream settings help explain the stream setup and reuse options.
Set up a recurring prerecorded stream
- Confirm that your channel can go live. YouTube’s current eligibility help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page and your Studio status, since eligibility and limits can change.
- Open the Stream workflow. In YouTube Studio, select Go Live and use the Stream workflow for an encoder-based broadcast. Create a custom stream key if you want a dedicated key to reuse. YouTube states, “To reuse the same stream key, create a custom stream key.” See Manage live stream settings.
- Configure your encoder. Choose YouTube in the encoder or enter the stream URL shown in Live Control Room, then enter the custom key. Select RTMPS if your encoder supports it; YouTube describes it as RTMP over TLS/SSL and explains how to reveal and copy the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room: YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Load the prerecorded video and set its loop in the encoder. Loop controls differ by encoder, so follow that product’s instructions. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes sending the feed, but does not specify looping controls for individual software.
- Choose the right audience link. Share the channel Live page for a recurring route to the current broadcast. For a particular upcoming broadcast, schedule it in Live Control Room and share that event’s watch page for advance promotion and reminders. Reusing settings may carry forward metadata and the stream key; it does not make the event page and channel Live URL the same thing.
- Preview, test, and monitor. Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube’s streaming tips suggest setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting them at least 15 minutes before it. These are YouTube’s recommendations, not universal technical requirements.
What happens when a broadcast ends?
YouTube says the encoder feed creates a watch page when streaming begins. Stopping the encoder ends that feed. Its encoder help page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; treat this as YouTube’s stated behavior, not a guarantee for longer streams. Plan separate broadcasts as separate sessions and confirm the live status in Studio. Read YouTube’s encoder instructions for its current workflow.
Protect the reusable key
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it in a video description, public instructions, or screenshots.
- If the key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room using YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Share the viewer-facing channel Live URL or scheduled event page—not the ingest URL or key.
Encoder choice: software or hardware
YouTube documents both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. A hardware encoder is an option for higher-production setups, not a requirement for reusing a key or sharing a recurring channel link. Choose based on your production needs; YouTube’s instructions do not require a capture card or dedicated streaming computer for this setup. See encoder setup options.

Troubleshooting a recurring stream
- The encoder will not connect: Check that you selected the correct YouTube stream URL and entered the intended key. Confirm the stream’s status in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed or changed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The link opens an event that is not live: You may be sharing a scheduled event’s watch page. Share the channel Live page for the current broadcast, or use the event page specifically for promoting that scheduled session.
- Viewers cannot find the current broadcast: Verify that the encoder feed is live in Studio, then direct viewers to the channel Live page. The key is for the encoder, not the audience.
- The prerecorded file does not repeat: Check the encoder’s own loop setting. YouTube’s generic encoder instructions do not provide software-specific looping steps.
- Audio or video quality is wrong: Inspect the Live Control Room preview and continuously monitor the feed; test the full setup before the broadcast rather than relying on the saved key or settings alone.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps prerecorded video live without leaving an encoder running at home, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the cloud stream continues with your computer off.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account.
