For routine dusting, use a clean, soft, dry brush or cloth with light strokes, working around the assembled LEGO model instead of pulling at pieces. If the display includes electronic components, keep liquids away from them and follow the care instructions for that specific component.
How to dust an assembled LEGO console display
- Stabilize the model. Set it securely on its base or display surface before cleaning.
- Choose a clean, soft, dry tool. A brush can reach small gaps; a cloth can wipe accessible surfaces. LEGO does not compare their performance or require microfiber for routine dusting.
- Use light strokes. Work around protruding pieces and delicate details so the brush or cloth does not catch on them or shift the build. LEGO does not specify a cleaning frequency or a measured pressure; use only the force needed to lift dust.
- Check for electronics. Do not spray or immerse electronic components. If sensors or motors are connected, disconnect them from both the hardware and any power source before cleaning, as directed by LEGO Education’s hygiene guidance.
How to clean a LEGO SMART Brick
LEGO says the SMART Brick can be dusted with a brush or cloth, but warns against water, detergents, and soap. Its guidance is: “You can clean the SMART Brick and dust it with a brush or cloth. Don’t use water, detergents or soap, as this can damage the brick.” See LEGO’s SMART Brick cleaning guidance.
When and how to wash LEGO pieces
A deeper wash is for loose, ordinary LEGO elements—not an assembled display or an electronic component. LEGO’s brick-cleaning guidance recommends hand-cleaning with water no hotter than 104°F (40°C), using a soft cloth or sponge. It allows mild detergent for ordinary pieces; for sensitive or electronic pieces, LEGO’s general guidance specifies a cloth moistened with water and mild detergent without perfume or oil. Follow the instructions for the particular component rather than applying those directions indiscriminately to electronics.

Drying and methods to avoid
- Do not put LEGO pieces in a dishwasher or washing machine.
- Do not dry them in an oven, microwave, or with a hair dryer, and avoid direct sunlight while drying. Excessive heat can deform bricks.
- Do not casually use alcohol- or bleach-based disinfectants. LEGO Education warns that disinfectants can damage decorations, make transparent elements hazy, and cause cracks or crazing. For classroom disinfection, follow applicable local guidance and the relevant component’s care instructions.
