A warning beside a logical device in maxView Storage Manager flags something for attention, but it does not identify the cause by itself or prove that a physical drive has failed. Trace the indicator to the affected component, then use the Event Log, Task Log and Storage Dashboard to establish what is happening before choosing a fix.

What the warning means

In Enterprise View, maxView displays warning- and error-level icons beside affected components. Microchip describes these icons as a trail that helps identify a problem’s source; the icon is a navigation clue, not a complete diagnosis. The warning might be attached to the logical device, its array, the controller or another component. Microchip’s maxView user guide explains the indicators.

How to investigate the warning

  1. Trace the indicator in Enterprise View. Follow the warning or error icon and note which component actually carries the status: the logical device, array, controller or another item.
  2. Read the matching Event Log entry. Open Event Log and select the relevant event. The log records activity and status in the managed storage space, and selecting an entry displays it in a more readable format. Microchip’s user guide describes the Event Log.
  3. Check Task Log for an active operation. Look for a task such as a logical-device rebuild; an operation in progress can affect how to interpret the current status. The Task Log shows active processes. See Microchip’s user guide.
  4. Review Storage Dashboard. Check component status and logical-device properties, along with the dashboard’s resource and reliability information. Microchip’s user guide documents the dashboard.
  5. Capture the details before acting. Record the exact warning text, the event description and timestamp, the logical-device state, controller model, firmware and maxView version. Those details are needed to determine a warning-specific remedy.

What to do next

Do not replace a drive or controller based only on the generic warning label. The available documentation supports tracing the component and collecting status details, but it cannot identify the fault or prescribe a safe corrective action without the particular message and system context. If you need help diagnosing it, provide the screenshot or verbatim warning, the corresponding Event Log entry, and the maxView version, controller model and firmware, and logical-device state.
