You can invest in NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA) by buying shares through an available brokerage or other stock-purchase route. Whether to buy is a separate question: NVIDIA’s reported growth is substantial, but it does not establish that the stock is attractively valued or right for your goals. As of October 7, 2026, the latest company results covered here are for fiscal Q2 2027, ended July 26, 2026; a verified current share price and valuation multiple are not available, so a current buy-or-avoid verdict would be unsupported.
What does buying NVIDIA stock mean?
NVIDIA Corporation’s common stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker NVDA. Buying a share gives you an ownership interest in the company. Your investment’s value can rise or fall with the share price; owning stock does not guarantee a profit or a fixed return.
NVIDIA sells computing products and services, with Data Center as a major reported business segment. The company’s results can help you understand its business, but historical performance and management guidance are not promises about future results.
How can you buy NVDA shares?
In the United States, common routes include a brokerage account, a direct stock plan or dividend reinvestment plan where available, or a stock fund that owns NVIDIA. Investor.gov describes these routes and notes that brokerage accounts can hold and trade securities including stocks, mutual funds and ETFs. Availability, account terms, fees and tax treatment vary by provider and jurisdiction.

- Choose an available purchase route. Compare account eligibility, fees, trading terms and the securities the account can hold. If you use a brokerage, check whether it is a cash account or permits margin borrowing; borrowing can increase losses as well as exposure.
- Find the security. Search for NVIDIA Corporation using the ticker NVDA and confirm the company and listing before placing an order. Tickers and access to securities can vary by platform and country.
- Choose an order type and quantity. A market order seeks execution at available market prices, which can differ from the last quoted price. A limit order specifies the highest price you are willing to pay when buying, but the order may not execute if the market does not reach that price. Neither order type guarantees a favorable result.
- Review before submitting. Check the share quantity, estimated cost, order type, any fees and whether the trade uses borrowed funds. Online access does not replace researching the investment, as the SEC’s Investor.gov guidance emphasizes.
- Keep the position in context. Consider how the shares fit your overall goals, time horizon and tolerance for losses rather than treating one company as a complete portfolio.
What do NVIDIA’s latest reported results show?
NVIDIA’s August 26, 2026 results release reported the following for fiscal Q2 2027, the quarter ended July 26, 2026:
| Measure | Reported result | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year | Reported company revenue for the quarter; past growth does not establish future growth or share returns. |
| Data Center revenue | $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year | Reported segment revenue; it represented the substantial majority of quarterly revenue. |
| GAAP gross margin | 75.0% | Reported using generally accepted accounting principles for that quarter. |
| GAAP diluted earnings per share | $2.46 | Reported on a GAAP diluted basis for that quarter; it is not itself a current valuation measure. |
The same release gave management’s Q3 FY2027 revenue outlook of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, and said the outlook assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China. This is company guidance, not realized revenue. CEO Jensen Huang said, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” That is management’s view, not an independent finding or a guarantee of future results.

Is NVDA worth buying now, and how should you assess valuation?
A company can report rapid growth and still have shares that are expensive relative to future earnings; conversely, a lower multiple alone does not prove that a stock is a good investment. To judge valuation, compare a dated share price with a clearly identified earnings measure and period, and make the basis explicit—for example, trailing GAAP earnings, adjusted earnings or a forward estimate. Those measures are not interchangeable.
A current valuation conclusion cannot be established here: the share price, market capitalization and consensus estimates have not been verified at an authoritative timestamp. Without those inputs, a price-to-earnings multiple or a claim that NVDA is cheap or expensive would be misleading. NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 revenue growth should not be used as a substitute for a dated valuation calculation.

NVIDIA also announced on September 28, 2026 that it authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases, bringing its remaining authorization to $235 billion. The company said it expects to execute the remaining program through fiscal 2028. An authorization is not a guaranteed purchase schedule, does not assure that shares will be repurchased at any particular price and does not establish a floor under the stock.
What risks should an NVDA investor weigh?
Supply, capacity and commitments
NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 Form 10-Q describes capital commitments to secure supply and capacity, obtain cloud services and lease data-center capacity, with substantial payments spanning multiple years. Demand, business needs or plans could differ from expectations, leaving the company with commitments that may be difficult to reduce.

Partners, customers and data-center execution
The filing also describes risks if partners or customers fail to meet commitments, secure financing or infrastructure, complete projects on schedule or within budget, or maintain financial health. Data-center development can be delayed or restricted by power constraints, government action, permitting delays or community opposition. These factors can affect the pace at which expected demand becomes delivered capacity and revenue.
Competition, production and external conditions
Company disclosures identify other risks, including global economic and political conditions; reliance on third parties to manufacture, assemble, package and test products; competition and technology development; market acceptance; product or software defects; standards and interfaces; and changes in laws and regulations. Actual results can differ from expectations as these factors change.

Portfolio concentration and loss
A single-company position concentrates exposure in that company’s performance and share-price volatility. The share price can fall, and an investor can lose money. Diversification can reduce some company-specific risk, but cannot eliminate market risk or guarantee gains.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are alternatives to buying individual NVIDIA shares?
The alternatives below differ mainly in how much exposure they concentrate in NVIDIA and other risks they introduce. A fund’s name alone does not establish that it is diversified; review its current holdings, investment objective and prospectus before investing.
| Route | Exposure and trade-off | What to examine |
|---|---|---|
| Individual NVDA shares | Direct exposure to NVIDIA’s performance and company-specific risks; the outcome is more concentrated than owning a broad basket. | Position size, company risks, dated valuation inputs and how the holding fits your goals. |
| Broad stock mutual fund or ETF | Ownership across many companies may lessen the effect of one company’s poor performance, though a narrow or concentrated fund may not provide broad diversification. | Top holdings and concentration, investment objective, fees and expenses, liquidity and risk/return characteristics. For an ETF, compare its market price with net asset value. |
| Other asset classes or a mixed allocation | Stocks, bonds and cash have different risk and return characteristics; a mix changes the portfolio’s overall exposure rather than simply substituting another technology stock. | How the allocation relates to your goals, time horizon and risk tolerance, as well as the risks and costs of each holding. |
Funds are investments, not guarantees against loss. A narrowly focused ETF does not automatically make a portfolio diversified, and no allocation is suitable for everyone.
What should you conclude before placing an order?
Separate three questions: whether you understand how to place and review an order, whether NVIDIA’s business risks fit your tolerance for loss, and whether the shares’ current price makes sense against an explicitly stated earnings basis. The available company results answer part of the business-performance question; without verified current market data, they do not settle valuation or determine whether you should buy.
