In Puppeteer 25.12.0, enable interception with await page.setRequestInterception(true), then handle each request event by calling continue(), abort(), or respond(). Every intercepted request must be resolved or it can stall page activity. Install the handler before navigation.
Enable interception and resolve every request
This runnable example blocks requests whose URLs end with .png or .jpg and continues the rest. The extension check is a simple illustration, not a reliable general-purpose way to identify every image.

}The key sequence is to enable interception, attach a listener, and then navigate. Puppeteer’s API reference says requests stall until they are continued, fulfilled with a response, aborted, or completed from the browser cache. An inspection-only handler still needs to continue each request.
Choose what to do with a request

These methods are available after interception is enabled. Match requests using criteria suited to the site and task—such as a URL, resource type, or other request details—rather than assuming a filename suffix catches every resource.

Continue with overridden headers
Copy the existing headers, change or add values, then pass them to continue(). Setting a header value to undefined removes it, as shown in Puppeteer’s API example.

Use respond() to fulfill a request with a supplied status, content type, and body. This example returns a plain-text 404 for every intercepted request; in a real script, restrict the mock to the request you intend to replace and continue all others.

Abort selectively
Call abort() for requests that should not be sent. Make sure every nonmatching request is continued or otherwise resolved; leaving it untouched can hold up page activity.

Handle multiple listeners and asynchronous work safely
A dependency or another listener may have resolved a request before your handler runs. Check request.isInterceptResolutionHandled() before resolving it. If the handler awaits asynchronous work, check again immediately afterward: another listener may act during the wait. Keep that final check and the resolving call together in the same synchronous block.

});Replace decideWhetherToBlock with an asynchronous function from your application. The second state check is important even if your own code has only one handler, because other listeners may be installed elsewhere.

Cooperative interception priorities
When using Puppeteer’s cooperative interception mode, every resolving handler must provide a numeric priority. Handlers run and are awaited; the highest priority wins. If priorities tie, resolution favors abort over respond over continue. If any handler omits a priority, legacy immediate resolution applies, so do not assume every listener is participating cooperatively.
Use passive events when you only need a traffic log
Puppeteer emits request and response events by default. If you only need to observe traffic, log those events without enabling interception:

A 404 or 503 is still an HTTP response: Puppeteer’s lifecycle associates it with requestfinished, not requestfailed. Check the response status when you need to detect HTTP error codes. Reserve requestfailed for a request that fails before completing through that response lifecycle.
Connection-level URL patterns are a separate option
Puppeteer also documents URL-pattern allowlist and blocklist settings in ConnectOptions. The documentation says this option is currently supported only for Chrome and cautions that it is not a complete network sandbox. Treat it as a connection-level restriction, not a replacement for page-level interception when you need to inspect, modify, mock, or selectively abort requests.
Troubleshooting
- Navigation or page activity hangs: A handler may have left a request unresolved. Ensure every branch calls
continue(),abort(), orrespond(), as appropriate. - “Request is already handled” or a resolution error: Another listener may have acted first. Check
isInterceptResolutionHandled()before resolving, and check again after anyawait. - Expected headers are missing or unchanged: Pass the modified header object to
request.continue({ headers }); changing a local object alone does not alter the outgoing request. - A 404 appears as a completed request: That is expected for an HTTP response. Inspect the response status instead of treating every non-2xx response as
requestfailed. - A mock does not replace a
data:URL: Puppeteer documentsrespond()for that URL scheme as a no-op. - A URL-pattern restriction does not isolate all network traffic: The documented connection option is Chrome-only at present and is not a complete network sandbox.
