On Ubuntu, install Viber either from the official Viber download page using its Ubuntu package or from the Viber Snap Store listing with sudo snap install viber. Viber also lists Fedora and AppImage downloads for Linux. Before installing, make sure you have an active Viber account on a mobile phone: Desktop activation depends on it.
Choose a Viber installation route
Viber’s official download page lists Linux downloads for Ubuntu, Fedora, and AppImage. Use the option intended for your distribution rather than assuming one Linux package will work everywhere.

Ubuntu describes deb and snap as its recommended app package formats. Snap’s listing says Snap applications update automatically and can be rolled back; this is general Snap behavior, not a guarantee about a particular Viber release. See Ubuntu’s explanation of deb and snap packages.
Install Viber on Ubuntu with Snap
The Viber Snap Store listing identifies Viber Media S.à r.l. as publisher and provides this install command:

- Open Terminal.
- Run
sudo snap install viberand enter your password if prompted. - Wait for Snap to finish installing the package, then launch Viber from your applications menu.
The listing says Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and later already have Snap ready to use. On some older Ubuntu releases or Ubuntu flavors without Snap, install snapd first:
- Update the package index with
sudo apt update. - Install snapd with
sudo apt install snapd. - Log out and back in, or restart, so Snap paths are updated; then run
sudo snap install viber.
Install Viber using the Ubuntu download
- Open Viber’s official desktop download page.
- Choose the Ubuntu download and save the offered package.
- Open the downloaded package and follow Ubuntu’s installation prompts. If the page provides different current instructions, follow those.
- Launch Viber from the applications menu after installation.
The download page is the best place to get the current Ubuntu package; a direct package address is not reproduced here because it can change.

Install Viber on Fedora or another Linux distribution
On Fedora, start from Viber’s official download page and choose its Fedora option. For another distribution, Viber also lists an AppImage option. Select the download that matches your system and use the publisher’s current instructions. Viber’s listing does not provide a complete compatibility matrix by distribution version or desktop environment, so a listed option should not be treated as a promise that every Linux setup is supported.

Viber Desktop syncs with a mobile account. Open the desktop app and follow its activation prompts using an active Viber account on your phone. If you do not have an active mobile account, you cannot complete Desktop activation; that is separate from whether the Linux package installed successfully.

The Snap listing describes Viber features including messaging, voice and video calls, and file sharing. A headset or microphone can be useful for calls, but neither is needed to install or activate the app.

If the installation does not work
- The Snap command is not found: Snap may not be installed on your Ubuntu release or flavor. Install snapd using the commands above, then log out and back in or restart.
- The app installs but cannot activate: Check that you have an active Viber account on a mobile phone and complete the app’s activation prompts.
- A distribution-specific package fails: Confirm you selected the download intended for your distribution on Viber’s official page. The page does not establish universal compatibility across Linux versions and desktop environments, so consult its current instructions if the package still fails.
