That does not remove the beta already installed; you can wait for a later public release or use Apple’s separate restore process to return to an earlier iOS version.
Before you install the iOS 27.2 public beta
Back up your iPhone before installing. Apple warns that prerelease software may contain errors or inaccuracies and may not work as well as a commercially released version. Apple recommends using a non-production device that is not business critical, and suggests a secondary device where practical. Read Apple’s beta software FAQ before proceeding.

How to install the iOS 27.2 public beta
- Enroll your iPhone. Sign in to the Apple Beta Software Program with the Apple Account you use on your iPhone, then enroll the device by following Apple’s on-screen instructions.
- Choose the public beta option. On the iPhone, open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select the iOS public beta option shown for your enrolled account and device.
- Check for the offered update. Return to Settings > General > Software Update. If iOS 27.2 public beta is offered, review the update displayed and tap Download and Install.
- Let installation finish. Keep the iPhone available while it updates and restarts. The build and timing can vary with availability, so follow the update actually shown on your device rather than expecting every enrolled iPhone to display the same release immediately.
Apple Developer lists iOS 27.2 beta 3 (24B5099f), dated October 5, 2026. That is the latest build identified here, but your iPhone’s Software Update screen determines which build is currently available to you.
How to turn off iOS beta updates
On iOS 16.4 or later, open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, then select Off. Apple documents this path in its guide to uninstalling iOS or iPadOS beta software. This stops the iPhone from receiving future beta updates; it does not uninstall or roll back the beta version already installed.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
What happens after you turn beta updates off?
Your iPhone remains on its current beta until you install another iOS version. If you leave Beta Updates off, you can install the next commercially released iOS version through Software Update when Apple releases it. Switching the setting off is not an immediate downgrade.
How to return to an earlier public iOS version now
If you do not want to remain on the installed beta while waiting for a later public release, returning to a previously released iOS version requires Apple’s separate restore process. Apple says you can restore a previously released version from a backup made before installing the beta. Follow Apple’s current beta removal and restore guidance; the backup’s date matters because a backup made after installing beta software may not serve as the pre-beta backup needed for this route.

| Choice | When the installed iOS changes | Backup consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Turn Beta Updates off and wait | When you install a later commercial release; turning the setting off does not change the installed beta. | Apple recommends backing up before installing beta software. |
| Restore to a previous public version | As part of the separate restore process, rather than by switching Beta Updates off. | Apple’s guidance calls for a backup made before beta installation. |
How to leave the Apple Beta Software Program
Turning off beta updates on one iPhone and leaving the program are different actions. To leave the program itself, sign in to Apple’s Unenroll Your Devices page and follow the instructions there. Apple says leaving the program stops program emails and removes access to submitting feedback through Feedback Assistant. Leaving the program is an account-level step, not a method for downgrading the iPhone.
